So excited to see this piece made physical with the immense talent and skill of @daviddodde (of @houseindustries fame, to name one of his many hats). Serigraph (screen printed) poster printing is a dying art, but David is one of the masters of the medium. Thanks again to @biltwell for the opportunity to make cool stuff together. Special thanks to @saralynclose for being my camerawoman. #illustration #moto #desertracing #lowbrowart #offroad
hey friends
this is Uma—hand printed in her own ashes
our dear friend Steph lost her back in March and i wanted to help her remember Uma by creating another ash print memorial
i first came up with the idea of using ashes as a pigment in 2014 when I created a portrait of my father using his ashes after his passing—Self Portrait hangs in the studio to this day
my father’s cremated remains were the first I had ever touched, and when I did, two things came to mind
the first was disappointment—realizing that this great man, who helped shape the person i am, was simply going to be put in a box and buried
the second was: Dad, you’re pigment
using his ashes this way allowed us to see him, not just remember him
now after ten years of saying hello to him in the studio—of my mom visiting him on birthdays and anniversaries—i can say the effect is immeasurably profound—to this day, when I see my dad, I see my dad.
i love doing this work and sharing the impact
with others—if this is something you think could help you, hit me up

Got to enjoy @ginginsgr last night with two of my ride or die friends. I remember popping into their studio sometime before Covid and first hearing about their design plans for this place. And here we are, over 4 years later! Wow. @daviddodde and Jen, you did an incredible job in designing Gin Gin’s. As Charles Eames put it, “The details are not the details- they make the design.” From the brush strokes in the window frames, hand painted gold leaf directional details, faux painted “beam” ductwork, to all the nods to the building’s deco era roots- while bringing it into the current era.
We had delicious drinks & food, and I have to say- excellent service. They open to the public today!!! Stop in soon! More in stories.
a little big thing we did for the Porsche Artifacts’ book launch in nyc / 60 x 40” aluminum panels / taking orders soon :) @houseindustries@type7@erg.media
