There’s more to Auburn-Opelika than meets the eye - and we love showing it off.
We spotlight hidden gems. Those tucked-away eateries and unique experiences that make this place one-of-a-kind. From authentic taquerias to family-run diners, “Off the Eaten Path” is our way of celebrating the small businesses that bring flavor to our community.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a lifelong local, there’s always something new to discover.

At Acre in Auburn, Alabama, Chef David Bancroft builds dishes around the people and places that produce them—from Murder Point oysters pulled fresh from Alabama waters to peaches growing beside the restaurant’s own parking lot.
For Chef David, cooking with local ingredients is about honoring the farmers, ranchers, and families whose work shapes Alabama’s foodways and keeps those traditions alive.
“The same way that I learned to respect and honor my Grandpa Kennedy at Ten Mile Creek Farms, I think it’s important that we continue telling the stories of these farming families—the oystermen, oysterwomen, shepherds, and the people harvesting our food in the Alabama heat,” Bancroft says. “All of that is so vital to this state, and it deserves to be honored.”
Seed to Soul is a new SoulGrown series exploring the connection between chefs, local producers, and the ingredients that tell the story of the South. Learn more about Chef David and the farmers he works with at the link in bio.
I’m SUPER EXCITED to be participating in my friend Michelle Wallace’s Sugar River Fire and Smoke BBQ Festival on September 19 and 20. The Festival is a weekend-long celebration of BBQ that features local BBQ legends, nationally- acclaimed pitmasters, extraordinary musicians, and celebrity judges–all coming together for a flavor-packed and smoke-filled weekend along the banks of the Sugar River.

I haven’t had a burger on the dinner menu @acrerestaurant for at least 5yrs now. Not sure why I changed my mind, but here it is, the new ‘Black Hawk’ Wagyu Burger that folks have been asking about. We’ve had burgers on the menu in the past and they sold okay. But, THIS ONE is absolutely SMASHING the whole menu. Like, we sold 300 just last week 😳 So for now, we’re gonna cap them at only 20 available each night and first come/first served. No “reserving” them cuz that’s not cool. 🍔
