Joan of Arc in Rouen. France 🇫🇷
I had two days off in this incredible city while on tour as a musician. Joan was captured and brought here for trial. This tower is the only remaining portion of where she was imprisoned and where some of that trial happened. It’s nestled quite nicely in a quaint neighborhood.
Le Bücher (The Pyre) is the spot where she was executed after being convicted of heresy. Burned at the stake. There is a church honoring her built around this spot. The square around the church is one of the most beautiful in the city with great restaurants, shops and a lovely market.
The Joan of Arc museum near the Cathedral does an incredible job of telling the full story. The actual trial transcripts survive today and it’s because of this, we know so much about her. The conviction was overturned just 25 years later.
The Rouen art museum had some classic portrayals in painting. We hiked high above the city to see the monument that overlooks the town dedicated to her. It was a misty morning which blocked the views from afar but created its own mystical vibe.

The city of Rouen.
After playing a show and having brief excursions here 2 years ago, I dreamed of coming back and having more time. On this tour, we were gifted two full days off. I treated myself to hotel rooms, one being next to the cathedral.
It’s an endless stream of “half-timbered” buildings surrounding multiple gothic churches. The city bikes are everywhere and make it easy to take-in the views at a fast pace.
Here is a focus on the walks through the city centre. The clock is said to be one of the oldest in France and dates to the 14th century. The cathedral was famously painted in a series of paintings by Monet, some I’ve seen in various museums over the years, one I got to see here. Joan of Arc was tried and executed in Rouen and there is so much related to her, that it merits another post.
My favorite two days on tour. I hope to come back here because these places get better every time.

The Neon Museum. Las Vegas.
I’ve wanted to see this place for years. Arrived at dusk to see both day and night.
It was originally a boneyard of discarded signs, later turned into a museum of preservation. It’s on the Boulevard north of the old strip and sort of right in the area of the original ranch that started the town. I went deep into Vegas history during my week. If you go there, this is worth it.

I spent a week playing shows in Vegas. I haven’t posted much because my hometown of Nashville was going through the worst ice storm ever. I had a very Twilight Zone moment of being in it, then whisked away to the desert.
I rented a car and had many lovely adventures. One such moment was visiting the Hoover Dam solo. The irony was that I was looking at something that produces so much electricity while my city had very little.
