#NewMusicMonday Daughters of Donbas
Daughters of Donbas is a contemporary acoustic project rooted in emotional and narrative depth. Blending elements of art-folk, chamber songwriting, and Ukrainian folk vocal traditions, the music moves between original compositions and reimagined fragments of folk. Futured Marichka (ex Balaklava blues, Lemon bucket Orkestra), Alina Kuzma, Zoe Santo and others. While some songs echo ancient textures, others are stripped to voice and silence — fragile, direct, and raw. There is no electronics, no overproduction — only acoustic instruments, space, and truth.
The project is grounded in real stories — especially those of Ukrainian children abducted by Russia during the full-scale invasion. Each song bears witness to a stolen name, a stolen childhood, a silenced voice.

Musikarar frå over 20 land kjem for å spele for akkurat det.
Eit av prosjekta du kan oppleve er Daughters of Donbas - Songs of Stolen Children. Det kastar lys over den grusomme og pågåande tragedien der over 20 000 ukrainske born er bortførte frå okkuperte område i Aust-Ukraina til Russland.

MAY 8 - LIBERATION DAY🕊
Today we mark the liberation after World War II. At the same time, it is difficult to see that the world is still marked by war and unrest – from Ukraine to Sudan, Gaza and Iran – and by increasing polarization and right-wing extremist currents in many places.
That is why we need meeting places where people can have common experiences, listen and understand each other. The Førde Festival is such a place 💛 where different traditions, languages and expressions meet in respect and curiosity.
This year's festival theme is PEACE!
Musicians from over 20 countries come to play for exactly that.
One of the projects you can experience is Daughters of Donbas - Songs of Stolen Children. It sheds light on the cruel and ongoing tragedy where over 20,000 Ukrainian children have been abducted from occupied areas in Eastern Ukraine to Russia. Синє моречко
Blue Sea 🌊
We dedicate this song to a remarkable young person named Vlad, who grew up in Kherson on the water, and dreamt of being a ship builder.
After Kherson came under occupation, 18-year-old Vlad was forcibly taken along with his classmates to a russian filtration camp.
Although Vlad was offered free education at a naval school and a russian passport, he refused, and protested the occupation by replacing the russian flag with a pair of his underwear.
For this, he was thrown into solitary confinement for a week, but never lost his conviction to return to free Ukraine. 🇺🇦
Thanks to his fortitude and his mother's bravery, he was reunited with his family. He is now home, in training to be a ship builder.
We like to tell our audiences that Vlad's story reminds us to dream in specifics. And when we are thwarted, to stay true to ourselves.
