My last night behind the old desk was bittersweet but not without intention. Tried to take as minimal of an approach as possible with so much being in boxes. 1 synth and 1 kit of percussion, and I still found it very enjoyable. When I have the time to dig back into this I’ll definitely be adding more to it. But as usual the limitations inspired me to get creative and fill in the gaps of the missing elements in ways I wouldn’t have considered. Clip & Content dump 🤌 My experimentations with the #Tonverk continue to lead me in new directions. It’s one of those machines that can be interpreted in so many ways. I’d rather not ruin the fun by delegating it to one job or position in my setup. The concept of this track was to use the arp function to create polymeters using wavefinder as my source of synthesis. Targeting the LFO’s for animation really made things interesting, can’t wait to dig even deeper today even with the limited time I have to work with. So much packing to do! Praying my gear makes it safely, I’d be devastated losing all I’ve worked so hard to build 😅. Went home to NYC for a week and got the chance to see some family and show the lady where I grew up. Hopefully we’ll be finding residence up there soon in Jersey City, just trusting in the process that’s felt serendipitous 😏. We’re incredibly blessed to have the support of our family’s in this transitional place. Especially my brothers, see slide 6, I always feel so proud any time I rock that @commonandnormal T. I wouldn’t be where I am if it weren’t for those brilliant minds I call brothers, especially The @beatnix_music Crew who’s given me the privilege to step up into an administrative role. Forever in their debt 🙏 the strength they’ve given me has no fiscal equivalent. The last slide is a fresh iOS app from @vubeatz that does a fantastic job emulating the SP202. I’ve barely touched it tbh but the sound is quite satisfying. I’ll most definitely be using it as a tool for resampling at the minimum, though it does seems ideal for full compositions. Having a song mode, mute groups, one shot playback, and visual waveforms for precision slicing. It’s certainly what so many of us wished the 202 was capable of back in the day as far as workflow. The updates have been flowing and it just keeps getting better. So grateful for these apps that ACTUALLY help in the writing process. Haven’t had as much time for the kind of sonic exploration that satisfies recently. Looking at the Tonverk as a synth instead of an all in one machine has been an interesting perspective. When I’ve got the space things will definitely get spicy on both the percussive and melodic side of things. The moments we feel the most stagnant and isolated are opportunities for the higher self to really step in. Keep your senses aware, the universe is still conspiring to help you. So, normally clips like this would go solely to story due to audio quality. But consistency is key, and this was the moment it came to life. The title of the track “Aeon of Horus” is fairly self descriptive, it’s one of the most dark and chaotic songs I’ve ever written. The rhythmic progression came to me during a recent meditation, and I immediately broke out the machines and got to work. Trying to “catch the big fish” as Lynch would say, I feel I’ve accomplished a new level in practice and am quite pleased with the results.
