Join us at da Shop: books + curiosities for an afternoon with acclaimed author T Kira Māhealani Madden as she discusses her highly anticipated debut novel, Whidbey, followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. T Kira Māhealani Madden is a diasporic Kanaka ʻŌiwi (Native Hawaiian) writer and the award-winning author of the memoir Long Live the Tribe of Fatherless Girls, a New York Times Editors’ Choice and finalist for the National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize and Lambda Literary Award. She is the founding editor of No Tokens, has received fellowships from MacDowell, Tin House, Hedgebrook, and Yaddo, and currently serves as assistant professor of Creative Writing and Indigenous Studies at Hamilton College. Madden also previously served as Distinguished Writer in Residence at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. To celebrate our littlest readers, we are kicking off Independent Bookstore Day on 4/25 with keiki storytime at 9am and 10am!! Author Kristiana Kahakauwila (9am) and Kumu Mālia Helelā (10am) are reading aloud from some of their favorite children’s books. Expect fun and festivities as they bring books alive for keiki and celebrate the joy of books! Doors will open around 9am (Roll your strollers up through the driveway and into the back warehouse storytelling space if you need to). Stay for the storytime and exciting IBD promos through 4pm!

Mahalo nui to everyone who gathered for the launch this past weekend for “From Aloha to @zippys ” We know our hearts held both grief for our impacted neighbors and gratitude together in celebration of this beautiful book by @kelsiedayna and we wanted to keep this exhibit open and welcome for anyone through Sunday March 29th. 10% of proceeds of this title will continue to be donated to the Stronger Hawai‘i Fund which we started on Saturday and will continue as long as this exhibit is up. We will also continue receiving canned food donations. Come visit us, enjoy the special coloring sheets and see the art from the book during da Shop’s open hours (Wednesday - Sunday, 10a - 4p).
