This was the first stage of research for “pulling the trigger” at @p.a.r.t.s._ x @rosasdance SummerResidencies. To be invited to this space, to be able to work and create every day, and to feel so seen and so safe in my search was so special and huge in ways I couldn’t even imagine. I am immensely grateful for this opportunity. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to Jelle Wabeke and Aska Hayakawa for their willingness to join me, for their trust and generosity; to Joris @lungo_nbona for documenting our process with such care; to Izah @izah.hankammer for giving us home and support for those 2 weeks; to @jipdijcks for sharing his voice for our explorations; and to my family (in all meanings of the word) who hold space for me and believe in me even when I don’t. While talking to others about this project, I sometimes feel like I’m looking for the right words to make sure that I will be heard and understood. Sometimes I remind myself that the work will speak for itself. Sometimes it feels like I’m walking on eggshells, sometimes like I want to scream from a rooftop. Sometimes I have no idea where it is going, and sometimes it feels crystal clear. And yet, we are just at the beginning. With all my heart, I hope to be able to see it through.

Auguste Rodin tried to get into the prestigious École des Beaux-Arts in Paris 3 times and got rejected. Despite passing the drawing exam, he failed the sculpture part every time. He was first recognized around the age of 40. The golden years of his career came in his 60s. And yet, he became one of the most influential sculptors in history. I’m not saying we have to wait until we’re 40 or 60. I don’t think we have to wait for anything, because the feeling that we have all the time in the world is also an illusion. But reading this on the museum wall, I couldn’t help thinking about how certain things are only gained through decades of meticulous work and patience. Through living. Through failure. Craftsmanship isn’t something you’re born with – it’s something you build. I also couldn’t help thinking about how much in a rush we are. We feel late at 25. At 30. ALREADY. RIGHT NOW. TOO LATE. As if you should instantly have the career, the confidence and emotional maturity, all the money in the world, the perfect body, the purpose, the success story, the investment account, and an active political position, obviously. As if becoming is supposed to happen all at once. But how is that realistic? I guess it does happen to some. It doesn’t even come close for others. Everyone is on their own timeline. But maybe some things are not supposed to be quick. Some forms of depth simply take time. Don’t rush

I don’t know when or how it happened exactly, but at some point dance, movement, and the body became my way of making sense (or trying to) - of the world, of myself and others, of the beauty and complexity of what it means to be human. I look forward to being a student of all that for the rest of my life, whatever form it may take. To all of us - beautiful, irrational, passionate, (somewhat) mad fanatics, who didn’t choose dance, but were chosen by it - Happy International Dance Day! extracts from a far away January session that felt like play music by @tomvanwee

Not sure how it’s possible that WILD @ifyouarewild.come feels like it happened just yesterday and at the same time like it’s something from another lifetime. Still processing it all, still tingling with joy Thanks to the wonderful @tinki.mov and @anya.k_ for documenting my peak multitasking mode on day 1 ❤️🪢

It’s been a week since WILD @ifyouarewild.come Gathering these thoughts together took a second. It’s been my dream to help build bridges through dance since my 2nd year at ArtEZ, but I could never have imagined that THIS would be the shape it could take. That THESE would be the people I’ll be honored to do it with. The idea to bring WILD to Amsterdam came out of a few DM messages. We made a post announcing the dates 2 hours later, thinking - well, now we definitely have to follow through. I said “let’s do it!!!” having very little idea of what I signed up for. Kind of like agreeing to run a half marathon for the 1st time after training for 5K. You think you know what to expect… but not really. There were bumps along the way and a moment when we almost turned back. But I can’t describe how happy and grateful I am that we didn’t, that we made it happen. I can’t tell you what it does to me - seeing people come together like that. The courage of letting others see you in motion, in your vulnerability, in your artistry, in your learning, in your joy. To me, it’s a living, breathing proof that we are so much more than our differences. More than our passports, languages, politics, backgrounds, and styles. More than our ideas of who we can be. That we can be truly inspired and hold space for each other. For that, I’ll do it over and over and over again. I’ll go through doubt, very little sleep, I’ll order countless pizzas and Ubers, fix contracts and insurances and get a dance floor from another dimension if I have to. THANK YOU to @dayanakhmedgaliev and @klevakin_klevakin for your trust, for letting me support your voices and become a part of the tribe, to @anya.k_for being by my side, to @chafik_bennie @door_open_space for having us, to @kajoinboi for the mind blowing sound, to @tinki.mov and @p43ke1 for capturing the moment, to @konstantin_koval_ , @droshah1 and many others for the support behind the scenes, to our guests for their generousity @emmaevelein @wilchaan @aboutmanuel @ekman , to all of you who came to share your hearts and souls, your dance, your WILDness with us! I LOVED and LIVED every second of it. Thank you! To many more 🪢❤️

At the end of March “through the roots” was honored with the Best Art Film Award at DFP Film Festival @dfpfilmfestival in London! It feels so special to witness how a story rooted in home and family is travelling so far across the world. Thank you to the festival team for this recognition, and for holding space for such diverse voices and stories from all over the world 🙏🏻

Beginning of spring in Stockholm - the crackling of melting ice, cold nose as an excuse for another hot chocolate, strong wind and soft rain, (still early) sunsets of pure gold, smell of cardamom, hundreds of shades of green in the forest. Thank you to @sjoerdeltink for being the most wonderful excuse to visit this beautiful city and for making me try all the fika pastries there are. I wasn’t resisting much, obviously :)) I will probably never get over how happy it makes me - meeting the world in so many of its expressions, being blown away by it, and being able to share that with people I love ❤️
