Tweed River, wild camping, and our first proper canoe expedition as a trio – what a ride.
We put in at Stobo around 6:30pm on Friday evening, paddled for an hour or so until we found a cracking camp spot next to a bunch of sheep.
Saturday was a full river day – stopped off in Peebles for supplies, kept paddling, and found another lovely wild pitch somewhere past Walkerburn. Fires at lunchtime, evening and morning kept us warm, bellies full, and spirits high – even when the temperature dipped.
By Sunday, we were nearing Tweedbank around 5pm and made a call: instead of squeezing in one last camp, we wrapped things up and called it done. Then came the adventure home – a bus to Peebles, a hitchhike back to Stobo to grab the car, then picked up the canoe… via McDonald’s, obviously.
Two and a half days, start to finish – the full Tweed Valley Canoe Trail officially ticked off. Proud, content, a little bit muddy… and already missing the river.
Last year I took a traditional timber framing course and then designed and built this sauna with my dad, it was an amazing experience and a huge learning curve! Really grateful to my dad for his support. Still to apply the cladding etc…..We’re got a garden room project we’re working on in 2023 but we’re keen to do a couple more next summer.
