Today’s episode of The Basement celebrated Asian Heritage Month with a playlist highlighting Asian-Canadian voices from across the indie spectrum — from electronic and experimental sounds to folk, hip-hop, rock, and everything in between. The show featured artists creating deeply personal, boundary-pushing, and genre-blending work, reflecting the diversity and creativity of Canada’s Asian music communities. It was a reminder of how much these artists continue to shape the sound of Canadian indie music. Thanks to everyone who tuned in this afternoon on CJTR 91.3 FM. 🎶

Episode 346 of The Basement is in the books, and today’s Release Radar was stacked with fresh Canadian indie from across the country. From familiar names like Whitehorse, Corb Lund, and Leeroy Stagger to newer sounds in electronic, hip-hop, and indie-folk, April’s releases are showing just how wide and active the scene is right now. Plenty to discover, plenty to revisit — and we’re only partway into 2026. Thanks for tuning in on CJTR 91.3 FM. 🎶

Wrapped up Episode 343 of The Basement, and today we were back in Release Radar mode — digging into a fresh batch of Canadian indie releases from the last month or two. From longtime favourites like Metric, Broken Social Scene, and The New Pornographers, to left-field discoveries like Angine de Poitrine, today’s playlist was a reminder of how wide and creative this scene continues to be. There’s something exciting about this time of year. Artists are setting the tone for 2026, trying new sounds, releasing bold singles, and building momentum for the months ahead. If today’s episode was any indication, it’s going to be a strong year for Canadian indie music. We closed the show with “Fabienk” by Angine de Poitrine — one of those tracks that stops you in your tracks and makes you ask questions later. Thanks to everyone who tuned in this afternoon on CJTR 91.3 FM. Your time and support mean a lot. Meet you in The Basement again next Monday. 🎶

Today’s episode of The Basement took a detour into Easter territory — but in our own Canadian Indie way. Instead of hymns and hallelujahs, we went hunting for tracks whose titles or themes brushed up against ideas of resurrection, renewal, reflection, and the strange in-between spaces this season tends to evoke. It was loose, playful, and surprisingly fitting. If you missed the broadcast, the playlist is full of thoughtful gems from across the country, each connecting to the theme in its own sideways way. Thanks for tuning in, and Happy Easter Monday. See you next week down in The Basement. 🎶

Episode 341 of The Basement is a wrap, and today we made our ninth stop on the cross-Canada tour — right into Nova Scotia. From soul and hip-hop to indie-rock, trad roots, and electronic edges, the province is carrying a lot of momentum these days. Artists like Jah’Mila, Aquakultre, Morgan Toney, Cassie & Maggie, Rich Aucoin, and so many others continue to shape a scene that’s equal parts collaborative and forward-moving. If you missed it this afternoon, the full playlist is stacked with East Coast talent. You can catch the episode on demand through AccessNows website. In a day or two, these tracks and so much more will be in a playlist on OurBasement.ca Next week’s show lands on Easter Monday, so expect a loosely Easter-themed mix of Canadian indie — resurrection, renewal, reinvention, and all the sideways metaphors we can get away with. Thanks for tuning in and supporting independent radio. See you back in The Basement next week. 🎶

Episode 340 of The Basement was supposed to be our St. Patrick’s Day themed show, but unfortunately I’m home sick with the flu today and won’t be able to be on the air. 🤧 I was really looking forward to sharing a great lineup of Irish-inspired Canadian indie music with you. Instead of letting it disappear completely, I’ll be posting the playlist here so you can still check out the artists and songs I had planned for the show. Links in Bio. Hopefully I’ll be back behind the mic next week. Thanks for listening and for your understanding — and in the meantime, keep supporting Canadian indie music. Happy St Patrick’s Day🍀🎶

Episode 339 of The Basement aired earlier today on 91.3 FM CJTR 🎧 Today’s show marked International Women’s Day, celebrating the incredible women shaping the Canadian indie music scene. From established artists to emerging voices, women across the country are writing, producing, experimenting, and building communities through music. Today’s playlist was a small snapshot of that creativity and talent. If you missed the broadcast, you can stream the episode at AccessNow.ca, and head over to OurBasement.ca to discover even more Canadian indie. Episode 338 of The Basement aired earlier today on 91.3 FM CJTR 🎧 We were in full Release Radar mode, digging into a strong stretch of early 2026 Canadian indie. New tracks from The Sheepdogs, Wintersleep, Daniel Romano, Broken Social Scene, and Boy Golden sat alongside more experimental turns from Colin Stetson, Daphni, and Holy Fuck. There was also a powerful live recording of Gord Downie with The Sadies, plus a collaboration between Dallas Good and Richard Reed Parry that carried real weight. You may have noticed the episode leaned heavily toward male voices — that was intentional. Next week we’ll mark International Women’s Day with a full two hours dedicated to female voices, many of them brand-new releases. If you missed today’s show, you can stream it at AccessNow.ca, and head to OurBasement.ca to keep up with more new Canadian indie. Thanks for listening and supporting independent music. #thebasementcjtr #communityradio #AccessNow #CanadianIndie #releaseradar
