Last summer @tidebearing.ybw ‘s old flat. We swam at the woodharbour and scaled the big floating spire and i cut my foot open and we dressed it but i only had my five finger ballet flats with me so we had to cut toe holes in a sock so i could wear a sock with my shoe. One of my happiest memories of summer and i am so happy summer is coming soon, i think we all are… it has been a bitter winter, not cold, but wet and dark… thank u [] for the changing of the seasons.

I am excited to be showing some work at bric, an amazing new trans community space in dalston. Bric’s inaugural opening is evening of 8th September. My work will be on display all month. Come down! About me: I am a multidisciplinary artist in London. Currently working with paper, ceramics, and writing — particularly diaries and journals. My work is often about repetition, materiality, medicalisation, hybridisation. I’m interested in ephemera as evidence, clinical settings, the nhs. But also what lies beyond and before! . The pieces that I’m excited to show at Bric are paper imprints of weavings, ceramic wall pieces; and ink drawings. Thank you to @xeongrace and @j.a.knibbs for having me 🫶🏻

Last month we installed a plaque for our darling Tristessa in the gardens of Hackney City Farm. We shared our stories, dreams, songs and held each other through heartbreak. A beautiful day - the sun was out so Tris could shine in all her diamanté and distress. Later I played this song (the Rufus Wainwright edition) and could hear her riffing on it in the tinkling of the windchimes. I only chose it as it hadn’t my left my head since I heard it for the first time a few weeks back, I’d wake up at 4am and need to sing along full volume. Me and Tris never shared this song but after it finished Jane told me Tris used to play it on piano. She’s still sending me music from beyond and I sing them back to her daily. No words to describe how grateful I am to Aillig @dappled___light for making this beautiful plaque and how proud I am to have such a talented friend. He made this in generosity, and that act alone carries Joelle’s endlessly giving spirit. But the plaque itself also carries her energy. It was made using plaster casts of Tris’s own distressed denim: a pair of jeans more hole than jean and some booty shorts where she gemmed the thin tethers of distress so the diamonds could float: a hole that shines. Aillig also imprinted a scan of one of Tristessa’s labels made for her designs, it appears like her handwriting but in fact Tris made the signature on a sewing machine: I can picture her now whipping the fabric around wildly while the machine whirs. The plaque is ceramic (of the earth, of the dirt, fragile) yet also distressed (technical marvel breaking rules of how a body should behave). It is lived in, full of life, cheap glamor and excess; acrylic diamantés embedded & some extra scavenged and dirty from the bottom of my bag. It’s JUST SO HER. I’m in love all over again. Thank you Aillig 🫶🏻💗 The plaque is a permanent fixture open to all - we even superglued diamantés to the screwheads - so no one’s getting at her! We hope it can be a place any friends in London can gather to remember the indelible mark she left on this city and all our lives. If you’d ever like company when visiting the plaque just send me a wee message. With love, Joni ❤️‍🔥
