In ‘LUNCH,’ Michael McGregor experiments with polyptychs, creating multi-part drawings from hotel stationery. As pictured, 𝘏𝘰𝘵 𝘋𝘰𝘨 is comprised of 15 pieces of stationery paper from The Carlyle. Each sheet contains a fragment of McGregor’s signature style of bold mark making, all coming together to form a large hot dog. The exhibition continues through June 12. Michael McGregor, 𝘏𝘰𝘵 𝘋𝘰𝘨 (polyptych), 2025, Color pencil on hotel stationery, Frame: 17 1/8 x 33 1/8 inches (43.5 x 84.1 cm) ___ #MichaelMcGregor @themcgregor #Lunch #DanYoshii #54Henry

Michael McGregor’s ‘LUNCH’ has been featured in The Six Best column published by Showrunner (@showrunnerapp ) and Elephant Magazine (@elephantmagazine ) as one of the must-see exhibitions in New York this May. Among Matisse, Domenico Gnoli, and Jasper Johns, McGregor and his use of vintage menus is highlighted along with a quote from the artist himself:

“The work is very ‘lived in’ — stained with wine or olive oil, smears of mustard and mayonnaise, rips and tears from stuffing menus in jeans pockets or inside my boot. Look close enough and you might even smell a taste of spicy mustard. There’s a lot to be revealed under the surface.” The gallery is open Wednesday through Sunday, 11am - 6pm. The exhibition continues until June 12. ___ #MichaelMcGregor @themcgregor #Lunch #DanYoshii #54Henry

Among an array of works on paper, ‘LUNCH’ by Michael McGregor includes nine paintings that show the range of McGregor’s practice. While his works on paper are often bursting with an energy of immediacy and spontaneity, paintings like 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 (left) and 𝘓𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩 𝘋𝘢𝘵𝘦 (right) as shown in the third photo invite the viewer to slow down and catch a glimpse of the more intimate moments of shared meals and sobremesa - a Spanish tradition of spending time at the table after a meal is over. Through layers of charcoal, gesso, oil paint, oil sticks, and collage, the loosely rendered glasses, plates, and fragments of meals emerge and disappear in rhythm. 1. Michael McGregor’s ‘LUNCH’ showcases twenty-five recent works on paper created on vintage menus and hotel stationery from around the world. Dim Sum Lunch in Hong Kong and Noodle soup in Hong Kong are created on the stationery of the Hong Kong Hilton, which closed down in 1995, and The Peninsula Hong Kong, an iconic establishment open since 1928. 1. Often working on found and collected stationery, Michael McGregor finds value in not only the subject matter and portrayal of imagery, but also the surfaces they are created on. In this recent body of work presented in ‘LUNCH,’ McGregor renders food, cutlery, and restaurant interiors in vibrant and energized strokes of colored pencils atop vintage menus. 1. Michael McGregor, 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘸𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘔𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘯, 2026, Color pencil on vintage menu, Frame: 11 7/8 x 15 3/8 inches (30.2 x 39 cm) 2. Next Thursday, April 30th we will open ‘Michael McGregor: Lunch’. ⁣ ⁣ Drawing from the artist’s previous series made on hotel stationery, this new body of works further dives into McGregor’s exploration of the impermanent nature of the materials he utilizes. As echoed by the exhibition title LUNCH, the works in this series depict scenes of meals had alone or shared across multiple cities with other artists and are created on menus personally collected during the artist’s travels. The menus McGregor incorporates in his work carry the physical traces of their journeys, rejecting the idea of the pristine, and preferring surfaces shaped by movement, experience, and time. A lived-in feeling is organically created through the creases and stains on the menus that have been stashed in pockets and purses, stuffed in boots, and slid in the back pocket of a pair of Levi’s jeans. ⁣ ___⁣ #MichaelMcGregor @themcgregor #Lunch #DanYoshii

We are pleased to present 𝘓𝘜𝘕𝘊𝘏, a series of paintings and works on paper by Los Angeles-based artist Michael McGregor to inaugurate the gallery’s new space on 54 Henry Street. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Expanding on his ongoing exploration of the still life in his distinctively loose yet dynamic touch, McGregor spins the idea of traditional still life tropes into contemporary scenes that focus on the act of eating and the subtle hedonism embedded in enjoying a meal in today’s fast-paced world.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ___⁣⁣ #MichaelMcGregor @themcgregor #Lunch #DanYoshii #54Henry
