Five years ago I completed my second full-length album.
I say completed — not finished — because, for a variety of reasons, some knowable, and some obscure even to myself, I never released that album into the world.
I have many valid explanations, to be sure. COVID is one. Moving to a new state twice in the span of 15 months, once across the country, is another. Investing a huge portion of my time and energy in starting and growing a new business grounded in my musical skillset and finally — FINALLY — making a decent living on the basis of that skillset, thereby easing the financial stress and burden that I had been carrying for a decade. That’s a big one, too.
There are other reasons that are maybe just as valid but that I don’t like to talk about because they feel like excuses. The feeling that it doesn’t matter how good I become at my art unless I also become very good — arguably even better — at creating marketing and content that promotes that art. The feeling that I am slowly creeping towards middle-age and that things like art and music are being demoted from “need to haves” to “nice to haves.”
And then there’s your run-of-the-mill, ever-present fear and self-doubt. Oh, and the low-level but persistent existential anxiety over the fact that we spend nearly every moment of our precious time losing ourselves in the digital netherworld while the real world burning. Where does making music (and content) fit into that?
But this is all getting very tedious. What I really came here to say is that I have an album of songs that most people have never heard (and, to be fair, most people never will) but that I am supremely proud of.
All these years later, I still love these songs. I still enjoy listening to them and they still have something to say that I believe is both true and relevant.
So, on the first day of my 36th year on earth, here is The Numbers Tell Us So, finally, in its fully-realized form. Link in bio. Full credits in the comments. Follow for more music.
And please, enjoy 🙏
Happy 2025!
