The latest attack on trans people has left me disgusted and ashamed to be American.
On August 27th a shooter entered a Minneapolis church and committed a horrific act of violence. This incident was the 304th incident of mass shooting violence in 2025 alone.
Yet our representatives and administration have decided to focus not on the calls for gun control, but instead on the identity of this shooter as a trans woman.
This isn’t new. The right has always leaned on fear, mistrust, and hate rather than face the fact that their whole ideology is out of step with reality.
There always has to be some “weak but also strong” enemy to distract working people from noticing who’s actually screwing them over. Right now, one of their favorite targets is trans people.
I know not everyone is as lucky as I’ve been to have close friends in the trans community. They’re some of the most brilliant, caring, and courageous people I know. The way they show up for each other has saved countless lives, and as a community they’ve moved our collective progress forward in ways that are impossible to measure.
I wish everyone in America could have a trans friend, but the truth is most people don’t. And that lack of exposure makes trans people the perfect target for the GOP to spread whatever lies they think will most activate their christo-fascist base.
This is why I created these graphics, as a counter to the non-stop misinformation about trans people coming from the mainstream media and our representatives.
