Recently picked up another SE/30 locally which was fully functional except for a missing logic board, which was perfect because for a couple of years I’ve had a spare SE/30 board with nothing to put it in. So now I have two systems, one heavily upgraded and one I’ll likely keep fairly close to stock. The analog board and power supply will need recapping at some point but they work fine for now so that can wait.
Also, tomorrow is the 36th anniversary of the SE/30’s release! Happy birthday, old friend.

The Game Boy Color’s screen has always been difficult to see, but my 35-year-old eyes just can’t tolerate it the way they did when I was a kid. Luckily my local retro game shop, @retroidgamesandrecords , has IPS-modded Game Boys in stock. Thanks Retroid guys!

I have recently been revisiting my childhood N64 collection and it’s made me want to collect more games that I rented or enjoyed at friends’ houses as a kid but never owned. However, the time, cost, and space of collecting more physical game cartridges just isn’t something that’s feasible in this chapter of my life.

I ordered the EverDrive 64 X7 and, as a fan and collector of Game Boy also, grabbed to EverDrive GB X7 too. These things are amazing and exceed every expectation. Modern tech paired with vintage systems is pretty amazing — in this photo I have available to play the entire N64, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and (through FPGA emulation!) NES game libraries.

The @lacie_tech FM Radio Tuner for Macintosh was a unique ADB peripheral which allowed Mac users in the ‘90s to listen to music on their Macs (kinda). After plugging this device into the ADB port on the Mac and plugging a set of speakers into the device’s audio out port, an app was used to tune onscreen the FM radio in the device.
I had one of these radios as a kid but got rid of it at some point. When I rediscovered the vintage Mac scene I decided I wanted one again, and found these two on eBay in France, being sold by an engineer who worked at the factory where they were produced. They are production samples (no regulatory labels applied to either one) that he held on to for many years before deciding to sell.

Got my SE/30 Reloaded board back today, all the way from the Cayman Islands!
This was the stock board in my childhood SE/30 but after decades in an attic, time and capacitor leakage had done extensive deep trace damage, and I held onto it as a spare, junk board. Then when the Reloaded project by Bolle became available, I remembered it on my shelf. Will Jacobs of CayMac Vintage did an amazing job transferring all the components to the new PCB and my first SE/30 board lives again! Love that purple color and that the leak-prone 1/2AA PRAM battery is now a safer coin cell.
If you have an SE/30 board that is showing signs of wear and age, I cannot recommend Will Jacobs of CayMac Vintage highly enough. He charges a very reasonable flat rate for the service and does exceptionally good work.

My 500MHz Pismo with its fleet of expansions. This is a great workhorse machine that I upgraded with a CompactFlash drive, but the plastics are brittle and breaking. I plan to sell it soon since I don’t use it very often and it’s the rare 500MHz built-to-order variant. Should I bundle all these drives and expansions with it when I sell or sell them off piecemeal? Tell me what you think!
