Three works. One night. One powerful experience. We’re less than a month away from The Insidious Trilogy—and Saturday, May 23 is the only night to experience all three works together: Strange Fruit, Grief, and Targeted in one complete program. This full trilogy performance offers a rare opportunity to move through the entire arc of the work—plus special offerings for audiences joining us that evening. This is the first time the trilogy is presented in its entirety. We’re building toward something bold, and we want you in the room. 📍 On the Boards @ontheboards 📅 May 20–24, 2026 ⭐ Full Trilogy Performance: Saturday, May 23 (limited availability) 🎟️ Tickets on sale now—secure your seats early @sdtseattle Strange Fruit (2019) by Marcia Davis Grief (2024) by Nate Watters Targeted (2024) by Jim Coleman #SeattleArts #LivePerformance #DanceTheater #ContemporaryDance

Not just movement—memory in motion. Across five performances, Artistic Director Donald Byrd brings together Strange Fruit, Grief, and Targeted—three works that contemplate America’s history of racial violence, systemic oppression, Jim Crow histories, and “deliberate forgetting”. Grief centers on the moments before Emmett Till’s funeral, imagining the interior world of his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, as she prepares to face an unimaginable loss. Grief shifts from a normal external perspective on the pre-funeral events to the sensation of experiencing the moment from inside Till-Mobley’s mind and body. Rather than recounting events, Grief asks what it means to hold loss in the body, and how private mourning becomes a public act that shaped history. 📍 On the Boards @ontheboards 📅 May 20–24, 2026 🎟️ Tickets are on sale now @sdtseattle Video by Luke Wigren SeattleArts DanceReel ContemporaryDance LivePerformance DanceTheater

It’s been such a pleasure having @sdtseattle Artistic Director and Tony-nominated choreographer Donald Byrd in the studio with us these past few weeks! NEXT ON STAGE: Spring Rep A dynamic double-bill celebrating the past and present of ballet! 🖤 From the Dark Land - A contemporary ballet by Donald Byrd returning to OBT for the first time since its premiere in 2023. Set to music by George Crumb and Franz Schubert, this ballet explores the tension between beauty and dissonance, chaos and calm. 🩰 La Fille Mal Gardée - Excerpts from Alexander Gorsky’s 19th-century ballet, restaged by OBT Artistic Directors Mara Vinson & Oleg Gorboulev. Set to music by Peter Ludwig Hertel, LFMG brings warmth and charm to the stage, featuring the lively Waltz and the spirited pas de deux of Lise and her beloved Colas. Repost from @kingk_75 • Congratulations to the incomparable @dansbyrd on his well-deserved @dancemagazine Award! What an honor it was to share space with him and all the brilliant honorees last night at @officialdadance . It was a true celebration of artistry and the legacy of dance makers who continue to shape and move our world forward. It was exhilarating to show up with pride and intention for a night that uplifted the power of movement. Dance dreamers were recognized, dance luminaries were honored, and I am grateful to witness these contributions being named. But as we celebrated, I kept thinking about the names of those who may never receive awards, secure notable leadership roles, or headline major commissions. Their labor, creativity, and courage remain essential to the vast pantheon of dance. They are part of the lineage too….shaping the form in ways history must continue to learn how to see. Here’s to the legends, present last night and present in spirit, who make dance what it has always been: necessary! #dancemagme #donaldbyrd #dancemagazineawards
