5 years calling our little beach home 🐚 It feels so surreal that five years have passed since we packed up a removal truck with our furniture, bundled up our 2 yo toddler and our tiny 3 week old baby, hugged our village goodbye and left the Melbourne lockdown life behind. Omg what a crazy time that was. Danny had headed over to SA the week before the borders closed again, coming back for a big gig. A week later, once my application to cross came through, my amazing parents drove the kids and me to the border. Danny was secretly waiting in the next town, ready to take over driving the kids and I and our fully loaded trailer the rest of the way. I still remember hugging Mum and Dad goodbye, not knowing when we’d see each other again. I was petrified but I knew we were being guided. We didn’t really have a plan. Just a strong gut feeling that the beach was calling us. We needed a fresh start and knew the freedom would follow. We didn’t overthink it. Just trusted. And somehow, it became the best decision we could’ve made for our little fam 🥹🤍 As a little girl, I used to daydream about living a slow life somewhere along a beautiful Aussie coastline. I didn’t realise at the time that l was already calling that life in. Life still isn’t slow (bcoz 3 kids 🤣🤪) but I still have to pinch myself most days that I’m now raising my own babies this way. Where mornings begin with sandy grass under our feet and salty ocean air straight into our lungs. And where evenings end with sunsets so incredible they stop you in your tracks 🌅 Screens have slowly been replaced with sand dunes and castles, and our version of swimming lessons looks more like pretending to be dolphins in the baby waves. Our half renovated house has sand in every corner including the kids beds, with wet towels and bathers always draped somewhere, and a fine layer of salt living on the cars too (bcoz no garage yet). But somehow, that’s part of the dream too 🥹 Melb & my village back home will always always have my heart. Life has such a funny way of pushing us. Well, leading up to this birthday I was playing with the thought of phasing out birthdays. Leading towards forgetting my age, focus on other things.. blah blah.. Then my actual birthday arrived, 14th January.. and it all shifted. My kids were so excited for my day, the sun was out and we had a wonderful afternoon. I was happy with this, done. Then, Thursday happens. Kids go to mums, the wife comes in to Memphis with me which is rare, and sure I expect a few congratulations but that’s it.. little do I know, cheeky little shits @djphoebesnowflow , @dustyleeau and @_willhealey_ have all made a genuinely wonderful gesture that completely got me by surprise. Not only did the bar staff dress up like me, all of my friends did too, and the band.. it was absolutely incredible. We had an amazing night. Saturday lunch in Handorf with my brothers, nephews and dad, then cake at mums. Honestly, what a wonderful birthday. Huge shout out to the staff at @memphis.slims for the amazing effort and for making me feel appreciated. To my bestie @dustyleeau for nailing a bestie move, to @djphoebesnowflow for supporting me even when I don’t feel like it, and to all my friends who made me feel special at the gig and with messages. Thank you. It was also my brother Adrian’s birthday who’s a year older on the same day. Happy birthday bro! 44. I can still play rock drums, but I have to stretch. That’s about it. God Bless you all.
