Laughter, tears, losses, gains, vulnerability, affection, introspection, highs, lows, reminiscence, dreams, fears, support, family, friendships, and sacrifice. That’s a culmination of what love is. It’s not just hugs and kisses, that’s puppy love. There’s so much more about a wedding than those 10 minutes of pretty pictures at sunset. There’s so much more for you to feel and to look back on when you’re old. That’s what I do. I see that, I put it on paper, and let those moments ripen as years go by.
Hi! It’s me! I shot my first wedding in 2007. I was 19. I had no idea what I was doing. I had no idea who I was or what I cared about, I just knew I could maybe make a living as a photographer and that made me reaaaaal curious. Photography has given me a life. It’s given me a career. It’s taken me all over the world. It’s given my family a life that nothing else could. I hold it so dearly and so closely. I’m eternally grateful for all of my brides, families, and everyone else who’s given me a chance along the way. Here’s to figuring out a way to do this until I’m old and grey. Let’s go.

Your first home.
You bought it when it was just the two of you. You christened it with a house warming party, and seasoned it with movie nights, dinner parties, renovations, and slow Sunday mornings.
Then the kids came. You brought them home and the world quaked underneath you. Sleepless nights and sleepless days for seemingly years. You lived on a cocktail of love & caffeine that rocked you into a fever dream of drunk contentment.
The Sunday mornings weren’t so slow anymore — in fact, nothing was slow anymore. The calendar pages don’t flip slowly, they suddenly vanish. The small cries turn to big laughs. They fight, they play, they learn, they crawl into your bed and each time they do, they’re bigger than the last time.
Seemingly out of nowhere, life decides it’s time for a new adventure and this refuge that you’ve built together suddenly reveals itself as just a temporary resting place on your way to points north.
This is a collection of photographs I made for once-clients, now old friends, so they remember always that home is what is in the photographs, not where they were taken.
I’ll never get sick of wandering through downtown Lewes on a nice day. Discovery is my favorite part of this work. Discovery of place, discovery of order, discovery of self, discovery of connection, discovery of love. That’s what this is. @emmahewitt__
I wrote something heavy and long about autism awareness month ending, but I don’t have it in me to share it right now. Maybe someday. Maybe not.
But then another autism parent shared this with poem with me and it seemed perfect. The hardest thing for me to recognize sometimes is the beauty in Holland.
I’ve realized it’s going take constant effort, for the rest of my life to see beauty in it, but when I do, it is in fact, beautiful.
And maybe that’s the point.

Here’s an autism story. You won’t talk to me long before it comes up. It’s the sun that my universe revolves around, and if you’re an autism parent, you understand that. If you’re not, you never will.
So, it’s time for Daniel Bar Mitzvah. It’s a big time for a young man. It’s an important time for a father watching his son grow up. But, times like this for typical kids are not typical for kids with autism. The emotions are different, the demands are different, the inputs don’t equate to the same outputs. For reasons only Daniel can really understand, Daniel struggles to complete the rehearsal. He’s overwhelmed, disoriented, dysregulated. Theres two paths his family can take...
They can push him, they can be angry, they can be disappointed. OR, they can be patient, they can be supportive, and even though they don’t understand, they can wait and put him in a position to succeed. Daniel’s family took the second route. They allowed him space, they loved him, they let him have his time to make an epic comeback. On Bar Mitzvah day, he shined. He carried the Torah, he read it loudly, he made his parents so proud.
So the lesson here is that when you don’t understand something, close your mouth and open your heart. Open your ears, open your eyes. Be patient, be understanding, and be supportive. There’s battles being waged inside some people that you can’t comprehend. #autismawareness
