Been coming to the @comedystorelondon for almost 30 years. It has always been my happy place, my escape from all my troubles. I never thought about getting on stage. Then about 20 years ago I got dragged on at King Gong by the MC for sitting in the front row and "rudely" arriving 10 seconds late. I didn't have any jokes, which became the joke. With the help of the MC and Simon in the sound booth I somehow survived on stage for over 4 minutes. What a rush! A seed was planted in my mind, but life got in the way.
Over a decade later I got pushed by a friend to do a beginner course at The Store, run by comedy legend Mike Gunn - It was amazing, one of the best things I've ever done. 6 years after that, having worked the open mic circuit performing in pub basements and mouldy back rooms to tiny audiences I finally beat the gong!
A moment of pure joy.
