Tonight Spring Buds, is up for a CFMA award. With the roster of other amazing nominees, there is little chance of winning, but it’s certainly an honour to be considered! Much thanks to @danmaccormack for all the talent and love that he put into making this project happen.
Spring Buds just received a really nice review from Fergus Carrick at Fold Roundabout in the UK. I really appreciate the attention Fergus paid to the albums theme. The article features a shout out to some of the contributing musicians including @ellieinhalifax@e.m.gibs@danmaccormack
3 straight nights out in Halifax. Analog living with @theplugshfx at the Old Triangle, @bendtheriver at Bearley’s, @johndsadams in the depths of Dalhousie, and Michael Donovan’s short opera at the Strug Theatre. Would keep it going but gotta record some music of my own tomorrow night!
Today marks 19 years of sobriety from cannabis and alcohol. In Halifax that counts as 133 years. I used to think I was seeking oblivion but I was really just seeking anything. In the absence of substances I found emotional stability, community, real friendships, nature walks, focus, and guitar chops. More than oblivion could ever offer.
Huge thanks to @kdugas for the weekend’s pipe recording!! Here is a sneak peek of some of the fruits of our labours through the iPhone mic. Pro team of @chad.peck and @the.drum.room locked in as usual!
I am heading back into @the.drum.room studio this weekend to record parts I wrote for bagpipes with piper extraordinaire @kdugas and producer @chad.peck . After a ton of hours learning how to orchestrate bagpipes, notate piobaireachd, transpose while writing where the midi patches I found are for Uilleann pipes in D, consider approaches to the drone from Lamonte young to the velvet underground to Indian classical music I am finally going to realize a huge part of my creative vision over the last 5 plus years and I feel a bit like I am eight on Xmas eve.
I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon in Mahone Bay at @stonehousesound in mentorship with John D.S. Adams yesterday. A paradigm shifting experience of listening to John’s beautiful work in immersive audio, and checking some Atmos mixes. I left with a renewed sense of desire to create and a need for 10 more speakers.
