Nitida Atkinson @nitidaatkinson (of Don’t Thank Me Spank Me fame) has teamed up with (me) Dan Kelly (of Dan Kelly) to form the greatest duo since Mickey and Sylvia ... **TIDA AND DANK** (that name may or may not change depending on market research before the album comes out? I’m Ron Burgundy?) Ingredients in their smoothie of song + sound include jacked up 50’s jump blues, 90’s r’n’b, remedial hip hop , maximalist story telling and all manner of super-cala-futuristic-ultra-eccentric-concentric guitar riffage. (The songs are really good and Tida is a sensation -(Dan)) Tida is off to Europe for quite some time , so we would like to do one simultaneous hello and Bon voyagè exposè for the world on Sunday afternoon May 31 at the Gem Hotel in Collingwood. Doors 3.45 pm Also featuring special guests, ——Jacky Winter——@jckywinter , purveyors of huge vibrations and makers of the recent sensational MPC masterpiece LP ‘Mango’. (Dan can guarantee, after sharing houses with multiple members ,that they will go ALL OUT in FULL EFFECT !!! with props and glitter and competitions and full enchildadas etc, on top of the top quality jams. M Ward @mwardtravelogue and his band were sensational at the @theatreroyalcastlemaine last night. I’ve seen him a bunch of times and loved it but this was next level. The arrangements and the players and the song selections and everything was extremely ultra fabuloso super great . I had no idea he had a Melbourne backing band he’s been touring with for a while now and they were tremendous. Will be vibing on that for a few years I reckon. @ribeirotron was perfect support , poised and minimal, deep and real as always . Thanks to @holyjeans for all the intel on the backing band scene. Tomorrow! We play our FIRST EVER show as TIDA & DANK! A whole set of new songs! Woooohoooo!!! It’s very exciting and such a pleasure to be supporting @jamesrangeband and @floodlights___ for the @bushmusicfund fundraiser extravaganza! Doors at 4:30. We’ll be out the back learning lyrics until 1 min before go time which will be shortly after doors. Will we deliver a whole set of A Cappella Belinda Carlisle songs with natural vibrato? @travels_with_mrs_maso Will @the_savage_sword_of_harley feature on timbales? Maybe! @dankellysongs and I have been hanging out lately, writing songs, making up stories, re-stringing Floyd Rose’s*, learning Spanish phrases, snacking and smoking our heads off and generally having a real wholesome LOLworthy time. We’re so excited to play the fruits of our labour for you at our FIRST EVER SHOW this SUNDAY @brunswick.ballroom opening for @floodlights___ and @jamesrangeband raising funds for @bushmusicfund as TIDA AND DANK. Huge props to @mattwalker.official for stepping in and becoming the fingers and acoustical brain of @paulkelly , after said fingers were mashed by a Sherrin only a few games into the season. A lovely fellow, natural musician and fast learner. The show has taken an unexpected but really fabulous twist. PK sans acoustic guitar is flaneuring hard in a Shakespearean, Stooges esque way. Nitida @nitidaatkinson and I have been writing and recording songs together for the last six months or so. It’s soooo much fun and we are coming up with proper good stuff. Next Sunday 22nd of Feb at the @brunswick.ballroom about 430 pm we are excited to announce our historically significant debut performance as TIDA AND DANK. It’s a benefit for @bushmusicfund featuring the mighty @floodlights___ and the sensational ska-tastic harmonic desert super sounds of the @jamesrangeband . We have songs about trucks, ambient lamb farms , resource war japes and MIckey and Sylvia moving to Narre Warren etc Sonic guru and fiancé extraordinaire @the_savage_sword_of_harley may appear on Timbalè. Also appearing will be my trusty FUNKBOX drum app. This show is for a great cause and it’s a brilliant lineup.
