My favorite line from my favorite poem: “If you can fill the unforgiving minute with 60 seconds worth of distance run...” has been an ideal that I have subscribed to almost obsessively. . As a part of #50shadesofMowf I wanted to do a project with my aspiring storyboard artist son Jaylen and my TikTok famous video loop producing son Justin @lasyrup , to illustrate the often ridiculousness of my day! As a serial entrepreneur, perfectionist and workaholic, my day can pivot between self care, husband, father, family, fraternity, @maplesmediagroup graphic design, photography, videography, @mmgphotova @mmgphotobooth , dj, producer @danjamowf , and wedding entertainment company owner @themastersoftheceremony !😅 . As a part of my journey this year to 50, I’ve learned how even subscribing to my “Funky Mr. Do-it-all” nickname has been unhealthy. If DOING TOO MUCH was a person? ✋It was emotional to discover that I couldn’t say no to projects and that I always had this need to #MakeitHappen. I’m learning to preserve my peace and let go of the Superman complex. It was really a blast to work with my kids on this and I hope you enjoy it. I found a message in the reoccurring theme of these outtakes... FIX IT IN POST! “Post” is post-production, the time where you edit the video together. . You just have to get started and do SOMETHING on that thing. You can make adjustments and figure it out after you get a look at the mistakes. That’s why apps have versions and updates because if they waited for everything to be perfect, it may never come out! . This was such a great experience working with my sons on a creative project. I’m super proud of their development and the men they are becoming. . The appreciation for this project has truly been amazing and overwhelming in the best ways. I received so many personal messages and calls from people pouring appreciation and gratitude in my cup. Y’all done filled ALL my cups over and over again and I’m so grateful 🙏🏽 . I had to take a several emotional moments just to thank God and the universe for all of the resounding blessings in my life... so many of which were encapsulated in this video, and in the ABILITY to create this video. What an AWESOME birthday gift knowing I could want for nothing, how happy I am with everything, and I don’t take any of it for granted. . I am PROUD of ME! “A Ballad to my Momma” is one of the most personal pieces I’ve ever written. My therapist and sister said I needed to write something after my mother passed as therapy to help with the healing. I used a song off De La Soul’s last album entitled “A Quick Sixteen for My Mama.” as the foundation. I had something to say that was not what you typically hear on a dedication song to a mother. It was very difficult to navigate the balance between hurt and respect. It’s a story almost as complicated as the medium that I used to visualize it. And just like in life, I continue to learn and evolve and get it wrong and just try to get better. Thank you - Danja Mowf

The last week or so has been… interesting. A lot of conversation around one project. A lot of opinions about AI, creativity, and what people expect from the work. And honestly… it made me pause. While all of that was happening, I’ve also been in the middle of creating something much more personal about my mom. Two very different kinds of work. One built under pressure, using every tool available. The other built from a completely different place. This week reminded me of something simple: No matter how fast the technology moves… people will always connect with what’s real. So in real time, I’m navigating both sides of that… pushing the edge, while still trying to stay rooted in something honest. Appreciate the conversation. @richmondernews
