Custom lettering, typography, brand identity, and illustration by California Designer @danielpatrick
āSpecializing in brand strategy, visual identity, design, and illustration Iāve been producing creative content with teams and individuals for more than ten years.
Whether you need a strategic leader to walk you through a brand refresh or a skilled designer to produce on schedule, we can work together to bring your vision to life in a unique and compelling manner.ā
Such a great vintage @beefeatergin mirrored tray onboard @thejeannerenee . We are told itās from the ā40s, but Iām thinking the woven tray was an add-on OR itās from much later in ā60s. Still love it, perfect addition to the bar.
Quick trip to the city, our Valentineās Day tradition. Negronis, mortadella sandwiches, chicken Parmesan, martinis, and fries. Dirty snow, fresh air, dogs wearing shoes, kids on leashes. The park, the Frick, so many RULES at the Frick, 2nd Ave Deli, and the sun, out for two days seemingly along with the entire borough of Manhattan.
Such a satisfying matchbook from @thesixbells Countryside Inn. Restaurant and hotel merch arenāt about sales. Itās about extending the experience beyond the visit. A tote bag becomes a signal of taste. A matchbook shows up weeks later in a coat pocket. A branded luggage tag catches the discerning eye, if you know you know. These small objects keep the brand present without asking for attention, turning a visit into an experience that lingers, is remembered, and quietly pulls people back.
Perfect is boring. All art exists in context and often is in response to what has come before it. Neon replaced hand-painted signs, light boxes replaced neon, screens and so on. If everything looks the same nothing stands out. Thatās why I love these wonky signs. No design review, no fuss, just āIāve got to put something upā solutions. Logic says these are not good signs, theyāre hard to read, they donāt instill trust, but they do stand out and isnāt that the whole point of a sign? Itās like Rory Sutherland (Ogilvy UK) says, why do the creatives always have to submit their work to a room full of accountants, why not make the accountants submit their numbers to a team of crazy people and maybe an innovative idea will be born. Sometimes the best design is as little design as possible. This is the kind of stuff I want to make.
A floral budget is a values statement. We care about atmosphere. We believe in upkeep. We still romanticize the room. Great restaurants refresh themselves constantly. New bread. New produce. New energy. Florals should be a part of that rhythm. Guests feel it, even if they canāt articulate it.

In 2026, Iām saying no to white walls and blank plates, yes to oversized banquettes and casual seating. Low light, sun light, and lots of texture. If it doesnāt look like itās served three generations I donāt want to be there. Enough hipster plywood and concrete walls, the Ace Hotel is full of toddlers (itās not their fault), itās time for the grown ups to talk. Donāt worry about a little dust. Light a candle, invest in florals, give us something to look at, swoon over, and fall in love with. Itās time to get back to the roots of experience in hospitality or else itās going to be Sweetgreen robots and iPad kiosks as far as the eye can see. Do you like eating at the airport? Neither do I.
