It was such a joy to have Daniel back in Sioux Falls for Bach's Mass in B minor. We first met in New York City at our first collaboration exactly two years ago. He is a very accomplished musician and highly demanded countertenor, while also incredibly humble and genuine. We kept in touch after that, and he never once hinted me to hire him (as many musicians I've met do, which I feel honoured and flattered), but rather, he has only been such a caring and honest friend to me in good and bad times. He is always there, never because he wanted something from me. Although we have only been able to see each other in person once a year so far, we have shared many long conversations regularly on matters of life and faith, and also our mutual love for food and travels, among many other things. I really cherish how our friendship allows the level of openness and honesty which we were able to share with each other in our music-making during the week of B minor mass. And to have such a first class musician, but more importantly, an encouraging friend and music partner, made difficult music and challenging tasks so much more bearable and enjoyable. It's been such a great blessing!
It's so wonderful to have @danielmoody back in Sioux Falls, this time for Bach's Mass in B minor. Here are two clips from our rehearsal this afternoon, also featuring our incredible String professor Dr. @ioana.galu ! Hope to see many friends at the concerts this weekend! Finally they are all here in Sioux Falls! Natalie from L.A., Daniel from Vancouver, Esther and Okawa from Malaysia! Looking forward to a fantastic week with Bach's Mass in B minor!

Welcoming countertenor Daniel Moody to the spotlight ✨
Praised by The Boston Musical Intelligencer for a voice that is “vivid and powerful” and capable of “piercing hearts”, he is equally at home in oratorio, opera, and contemporary works.
Mr. Moody made his Metropolitan Opera debut as Rozenkranz in Brett Dean’s Hamlet. Additional credits include Oberon in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Vancouver Opera), Nerone in L’incoronazione di Poppea (Cincinnati Opera), and Tolomeo in Giulio Cesare (Atlanta Opera), as well as the American premiere of George Benjamin’s Dream of the Song under Stefan Asbury at Tanglewood.
A regular soloist with leading period ensembles, he has recently appeared with Apollo’s Fire, Les Violons du Roy, and Philharmonia Baroque. His current season includes the world premiere staging of Stradella’s St. John the Baptist with InSeries Opera and his Boston Early Music Festival debut in Germany in Telemann’s Don Quichotte.
We are pleased to work with Daniel as he continues to appear on international stages. 🎶

Almost a year ago, the day after Augustana Bach Collegium performed Bach's St. John Passion, my dear friend Daniel Moody and I presented a recital at Augustana University School of Music with music by Purcell, Downland, and Barber (with only one rehearsal!). I always enjoy working with Daniel so much, both from the podium as well as from the keyboard, as he is such a brilliant and expressive artist, but most importantly, a kind and generous human. I am really looking forward to having Daniel return to us again in May for Bach's Mass in B minor concert tour. Here's a short excerpt of Purcell's "In the Black Dismal Dungeon of Despair".
I am truly grateful for the upcoming opportunity to lead the Augustana Bach Collegium and School of Music ensembles, alongside esteemed colleagues and dear friends, in presenting Johann Sebastian Bach’s monumental Mass in B minor. We will share this extraordinary masterpiece in Des Moines (May 8) and Sioux Falls (May 9).
What excites me most is that more than 150 students are exploring this towering work for the very first time, and they will share it with many audience members who have never experienced this masterpiece before. It's truly a profound privilege!
If you are in or near the area, I warmly invite you to join us and share in this remarkable musical and spiritual journey.

Looking ahead to this Saturday at The Schubert Club ✨
I’m very much looking forward to performing Schubert’s Sonata in B-flat Major, D. 960, alongside special guest countertenor @danielmoody , who will be performing selections from Schwanengesang.
These late works of Schubert explore some of the most deeply felt human emotions — music written at the edge of life, yet full of tenderness, longing, and quiet transcendence. One of their great hallmarks is Schubert’s miraculous use of harmony and modulation, transporting us again and again into entirely different worlds.

Beloved, in anticipation of Sunday’s major storm, we are postponing our worship service and annual meeting until the following week.
Ahead of the storm, we will celebrate with a Music under the Spire concert with Daniel Moody and David Fung, with a reception following the concert. At 6:00 pm, we will hold a Communion Service for the Third Sunday after the Epiphany.
Join us for an evening of culture, community, and communion ahead of the storm!
It was an absolute joy to have Natalie Buickians and Daniel Moody to Sioux Falls last week. Both are extraordinary musicians and cherished friends who hold a very special place in my heart. Their presence brought such warmth, inspiration, and artistry to our community. How I wish that we could see each other more often!
