CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT opened two weeks ago, to a gorgeously supportive home-crowd at @castindoncaster , where my work-wife @itslaurenyvonne and I, are the newly appointed associate artists. It’s been a five year labour of love and I couldn’t be prouder of @madfriday.productions & everything we’ve achieved - getting here’s been nothing short of a miracle. A shout-out to our incredible team who made it all possible. Not only are they are some of the most talented people around, they’re also the kindest. Joining writer & performer Danielle Phillips (The Upstart Crow, West End) - we welcome Gareth Radcliffe (‘War Horse’ UK and international tour) as Terry and Charlotte Brown (‘Coronation Street’) as Jen. Luke Broughton (‘Boy A’) will feature as the voice of DJ Don reprising his role from the 2023 Production. Directed by Kimberley Sykes, Children of the Night is a love letter to the nightlife of 90s Doncaster, mixing kitchen-sink drama with spoken-word dance-floor euphoria. Since graduating as an actor from LAMDA, she’s performed in Ben Eltons Olivier Award nominated The Upstart Crow (West End), was awarded an Ian Charlson commendation for her performance in Sean Holmes’ acclaimed production of The Comedy of Errors (Shakespeare’s Globe) and was also nominated for the Evening Standard Future Theatre award in 2021. Her screen credits include: Masters of the Air (Apple TV), Ready Player One (Warner Bros), Casualty(BBC), Sister Boniface’s Murder Mysteries (Brit Box), Father Brown (BBC). Radio includes: Spice (BBC Radio 4), Trying it On, (BBC Radio 4 Live). Danielle is the joint co-artistic director of @madfriday.productions - an arts collective based in Doncaster, her home town. Last week I had the joy of joining this insanely talented bunch at the @nationaltheatre for the Ian Charlson Awards; before being joined by my besties for some golden ale at golden hour. It was absolutely mega. Big up my mum and @samdaygent for putting up with me, legends. And thanks to @booparis & Sean Holmes for believing in me. Anecdotally; @ianmckellen has said to previous nominees ‘Congratulations darling, you’ve arrived’ he didn’t say that to me, but he did offer me a light though, and sharing a ciggy on the south bank with Gandalf, is arriving enough for me. I’m humbled to share in the great Ian Charlson’s legacy, it was a privilege to spend time with his loved ones and her tales of his skill and humour. I’m also mad inspired be apart of this gang. They really are the ‘Stars of Tomorrow’, with big hearts, and silly bones, we laughed daft amounts in the shoot. The biggest congrats to my Globe season sister @frannnmills for the win. And for giving us that I C O N I C Hermia, which I’ll never forget. The experience was also a massive reminder that Instagram is infact public; as the judges quoted my previous post during the ceremony. This news totally floored me. I’ve always longed to have my name associated with the Ian Charleson Award. I thought it would be for my Audrey, Goneril or Ophelia. So here I am announcing my nomination for portraying some of the most iconic Shakespearian roles: Luce ‘the kitchen wench’, the ‘Second Merchant’(whom I named Larry) and ‘Messenger’ (whom I didn’t bother naming at all), in the Comedy of Errors at Shakespeares Globe. I also played two other roles within the production that are absolute CLASSICS of the canon: ‘Pinches man number 2’ and ‘Dockside Harlot’. There are no small parts! Humour aside, I’m daft giddy, full of gratitude, and honoured to be billed alongside such astonishing young talent. Congrats to each and every one.
