DUETS, Daniel Gordon’s project with Three Star Books, moves beyond the traditional photobook. Conceived as an artwork in itself, the book transforms the act of turning pages into an essential part of the experience. Through varied page formats and layered compositions, images are concealed, fragmented, and revealed, creating shifting visual relationships throughout the sixty-page volume.
Known for constructing and photographing studio assemblages, Gordon deepens his exploration of illusion through pseudo-transparency: glasses, vases, flowers, fruits, and vegetables appear translucent despite being reproduced on opaque surfaces. Rooted in the tradition of still life, the images are animated by vivid color, perceptual play, and carefully calibrated chromatic depth achieved through HP Indigo printing.
Rather than reflecting reality, DUETS embraces artifice as a way of shaping perception and emotion. A custom rubber-stamp print by Three Star Books, together with the edition number and the artist’s signature, authenticates each copy, which is housed in a slipcase featuring one of Gordon’s original backgrounds from the series.
“Once I stripped the scene down and took color away, I rediscovered how much weight black and white can carry. In grayscale, a shadow isn’t decorative; it’s existential.” —Daniel Gordon
Daniel Gordon: Objects at Hand is on view at 297 Tenth Avenue, New York. Presenting a suite of new photographs, this body of work finds @danielgordonstudio in newly restrained territory. Working in black and white, Gordon finds in the familiar objects of domestic life – and in the interplay of light, shadow, and surface – a sustained meditation on how images are made, how they deceive, and how, despite or because of their deceptions, they hold our attention.
The exhibition coincides with the release of Gordon’s fifth monograph, ‘Daniel Gordon: Objects at Hand’, published by @radius.books this spring.

I’ll be signing copies of my new book Objects at Hand this Saturday, April 18, from 2–4pm at @rectangle.room , alongside @lucasblalock , who will be signing the Chinese language edition of Why Must the Mounted Messenger Be Mounted?
A big thank you to @radiusbooks for managing to get 20 advance copies out for the event — excited to share them early. We’ll also be opening an exhibition of this work, and will have an official book launch at @olneygleason next month.
Thanks as well to @timobarber and @aughtfraught for bringing this together and thanks also to @lucasblalock and @fultonstreet for their contributions to the book— really looking forward to it.
I’m excited to share that my new book Objects at Hand, published by @radius.books , is now available for pre-order.
The photographs in this book are part of a body of work I’ve been developing since 2024—work that has been both challenging and deeply pleasurable to make, opening up new ideas and modes of working for me in the studio.
I’m equally excited that this work will be on view in a solo exhibition opening May 7 @olneygleason in New York. Please save the date—I hope to see you there!

New episode with Daniel Gordon! Tune in for the origin story, stay for Danny’s generosity and candor. As usual, I left this interview with a much greater understanding and appreciation for Danny’s work and practice. Few artists I know come out of the gate at 18, making the work that will define them for decades, and yet continue to iterate with such imagination and craft.
I'm obsessed with how our Denver project home office turned out! The space is filled with treasures I discovered while traveling last year, like the stunning @michaeltrappinc mohair blush Moroccan rug from my Connecticut antiquing adventure.
The Daniel Gordon photograph above the fireplace was the room's inspiration. While the rest of the home featured muted, autumnal tones, this photograph gave us the perfect opportunity to inject some Italian mid-century modern flair.
Despite budget constraints, the space still feels effortlessly chic.
