Kyoto. Only 30 minutes on the train from Osaka but they feel very different. The country’s former imperial capital, Kyoto is old Japan. Quieter, historic and more traditional compared to Osaka’s modern, neon-drenched busy energy.
Kyoto is also the last distinct stop before I head back to Tokyo, and after this absolutely epic three month journey across Southeast and East Asia, finally fly home on Thursday. #kyoto #kyotojapan #kyoto_japan #kyototrip #japan
Tokyo. Top of my bucket list for years. I was all booked to visit in March 2020 and well, we all remember what happened then. 😩 This amazing city totally surpassed my already sky-high expectations. Someone I met there said something that stuck with me – “the Japanese hate mistakes”. And that ethos is clearly why this city is so extraordinarily well run, spotlessly clean and ultra-safe. Everything just… works. Japan is a society at its peak. Other countries (particularly the UK) could learn so much from it. And all the wonderful Japanese people I met were beyond respectful, honourable and exquisitely well-mannered. Oh, and it was a privilege to be there for cherry blossom season too! Iconic. Snapshots from Seoul. Quite the contrast from where I’d just come from in Vietnam. A cool, clean, calm… captivating city. Modern, almost futuristic. Walking the streets at night it felt like I was on the set of Blade Runner (my favourite film). And the Korean people, while reserved, were kind, polite and friendly. I see my visit here as a little precursor to the next and final country I am visiting on this Asian tour, and a long-held ambition - Japan! Ho Chi Minh City, or as the locals still prefer to call it - Saigon. Vietnam’s mega city. And a fitting final stop for my north to south journey through this incredible country. While I was here, HCMC always offered something new to see, do, experience, eat, drink or photograph.
