At the very first Buena Vista Social Club concert in 1996 in Amsterdam, I felt, from the first rehearsal, that Omara was looking at me a lot with curiosity, but she never told me why.
I was 23 years old, and she was over 50.
About 10 years later, she explained to me that it was because she couldn’t understand why I was following Rubén González everywhere as his was a young kid.
Little by little, Omara understood the love I had for her music and everything I did for her.
Whenever I went to Cuba, Omara insisted that I stay at her house, talking for hours till late in the night, but than waking me up at 6 am with a beautiful coffee made by her.
Every night I went out, no matter what time I arrived, she was waiting for me just behind the door.
Omara is crucial in my life, and I have only gratitude for everything I learned with her.
Omara taught me how to dream about life and music.
25 years being on her side, a deeply complicity is here.
A perpetual Latin voice, an innovative woman who always knew her path.
