Samen met filmmaker Daniel Donato mixt ze liedjes, reconstructies en een ontmoeting met haar broer (die in werkelijkheid nooit plaatsvond) tot iets dat tegelijkertijd droom en werkelijkheid is. Agnes: ‘Ik was nerveus tijdens het filmen. Je moet je eerst voorstellen alsof het echt is: alsof hij mijn échte broertje is. Ik probeerde uit te zoeken hoe ik zou reageren en voelde een soort opluchting. Je hebt geen tijd om na te denken, maar je moet wel een keuze maken. Call me Agnes | @danieldonato | 2024 | 94’ Agnes’ life revolves around playing badminton with her queer friends and working at a restaurant she set up inside her house with her best friend Rini. One day her younger brother Indra arrives, looking for his brother Hans. Agnes faces a dilemma, keep the lie or tell the truth about who she is. The truth could give her a chance to reconcile with her brother but it seems more difficult to reach than she thought. Agnes relives and re-acts her memories and life experiences in a mix between fiction, musical and real life. Op het Nederlands Film Festival spreken we regisseur Daniel Donato en actrice Agnes Geneva, twee hartsvrienden die de handen ineen sloegen om docufictie Call Me Agnes te maken. Morgen is Call Me Agnes te zien tijdens de Queer Day van het NFF, én zijn Daniel en Agnes aanwezig voor een talk over queer en trans representatie in film. Agnes: ‘Een verhaal over trans-zijn hoeft niet altijd ellendig te zijn: wij worden ook verliefd, werken hard, gaan naar feestjes, vieren vakantie – we leven net als iedereen. Ik hoop daarom dat films als deze andere trans en queer mensen kunnen inspireren om te zien dat je, wat er ook gebeurt, hetzelfde geluk verdient als ieder mens. Om jezelf te kunnen zijn, en om er te kúnnen zijn.’ Daniel: ‘We hebben deze representatie nodig, voor de queer en trans gemeenschap.
