SHUG SPEAKS — EPISODE 9
Episode 9 features Daniel Ferstl — an artist navigating nostalgia, pop culture, and the quietly spooky edges of everyday life.
From video games and comic books to cult soundtracks and late-night making, these slides pull direct quotes from our conversation, touching on process, influences, unfinished works that judge you daily, and why sometimes the work comes before the title.
Following a @plop.residency in 2023, this episode captures an honest snapshot of where his practice is right now.

Surprisingly I painted a cat. It’s wearing a golden wristwatch as a collar and is thinking about its life choices - sometimes! Cheers Daniel!
A couple of new drawings:
„Dolphin dreams of something“
„Just let the sun“
„Throw out the plans and watch what happens“
„Wuthering Chives“
„A great thinker“
(Color)pencil/paper

I recently rewatched „Overboard“ - in it Goldie Hawn‘s character pondered on whether she should have a child. Her mother replied: „If you have a baby you won’t be the baby.“ Later in the movie the highly amnesiac woman meets her supposed children, the youngest of the boys greets her with a Peewee Hermann impression. The startled woman delivers my favorite comedic line in any movie: „A falsetto child???“
The artist/baby who produced this canvas not only is no doctor nor a private detective -and most certainly no CEO - also has a name that English natives just can’t pronounce, so in a Homer Simpson/Max Power moment I’m changing it to the translated version: Dan Forester, a strong name and also with ties to „The Bold and the Beautiful“. I could be a good Ridge, Rick or Rick Jr. Maybe. This is all nonsense! 😬
