These two are highly involved in the annual Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) while maintaining their deep connection to Detroit through the ages. Their careers span multiple continents and collaborations with a who’s who of global techno history, such as Orlando Voorn, DJ Pierre, Paul Johnson, and K’alexi Shelby, not to mention Detroit heavyweights Eddie Fowlkes and Keith Tucker. Given all this powerful history, I can’t wait to hear what these two will cook up for us.
Shawn Rudiman LIVE (Pittsburgh, PA):
Detroit Techno Militia, Technoir Audio
Shawn is one of America’s most prolific and durable techno producers, with releases spanning decades under his own label Technoir Audio, as well as for Tresor, 7th City, DTM, and too many others to list—while remixing countless artists, including a couple of my personal favorites Vince Watson & Paul Mac. As the RA Editorial team themselves put it: “The pace and consistency of Shawn Rudiman’s output lends itself to the clichéd image of the master patiently toiling away in his private quarters, making masterpieces without a care if anyone notices.” To be sure, I’ve watched him do his thing live on stage twice and it is simply spellbinding. We’re so proud to have Shawn bust HALO’s cherry as its first live techno act.
DETUNE (Ghent, BE):
Detroit Techno Militia, Beneath The Surface
As one of DTM’s latest inductees, Belgium’s DETUNE has been quietly repping Detroit’s roots all over Europe for the better part of the last 15 years. DETUNE is known as a crate digger, constantly exploring the history of electronic music, relentlessly searching for music that expands the mind and moves the soul. I had the pleasure of sharing a couple lineups with this man during last year’s festivities, and was immediately drawn to his sense of timing, history, and, yes, soul!
