… Balancing rocks, falling currency. Zimbabwe’s 100 trillion-dollar banknote has become a global symbol of economic collapse. At its centre: three quiet balancing rocks stacked against the sky — a monument to stability printed on money that became almost instantly worthless. Artist Dan Halter takes this image and carves it back into being. In collaboration with Zhané Warren, Halter created ‘Domboremari’ (“the money rocks”) — a large linocut series based on the Chiremba Balancing Rocks from Zimbabwean banknotes. Over a month of carving into linoleum flooring, then six colour editions echoing the notes of the hyperinflation years, he turns a symbol of failure into a slow, labour‑intensive meditation on value, identity, and displacement. « Rifugiato mappa Del mondo », Dan Halter, 2013, technique mixte et collage de sacs en plastique récupérés, 183x 380 cm Cette oeuvre, réalisée par l’artiste zimbabwéen Dan Halter prend la forme d’une carte du monde réinventée à partir de sacs plastiques récupérés. Assemblée à partir de matériaux du quotidien, souvent associés au transport et aux déplacements, l’œuvre évoque les trajectoires migratoires et les réalités de l’exil. Inspirée d’infographies sur les flux de migration, cette cartographie fragmentée met en lumière les dynamiques complexes qui relient les territoires et les individus. Réalisée avec la participation de Sibongile Chinjonjo, réfugié zimbabwéen vivant en Afrique du Sud, l’œuvre porte en elle une dimension à la fois collective et profondément humaine.
