Florida is being asked to redraw congressional maps just a few years after they were put in place. No new census data. No court order. No traditional trigger. This isn’t how the process is supposed to work, and it raises serious concerns about where we’re headed.

Celebrating 50 years of @stallionnationcsms Coral Springs Middle School! Stampeding through the years! 🐎💙 From an unforgettable Spirit Week and Color Wars Field Day to a memorable community celebration filled with love, tradition, and Stallion pride. This milestone was truly something special. Our school family continues to fuel excellence year after year. We loved welcoming back so many former staff and alumni who helped shape our story. Thank you to the @coralspringsfl for collaborating with us during our planning stages, providing memorabilia, and to @cscommissioner4 for bringing greetings. Special thanks to State Representative and former CSMS student @dandaley96 for honoring us with a proclamation that is showcased in our front office for years to come. We appreciate the support from @browardschoolsofficial @lorialhadeff8 and @bcpsnorthregion for being a part of our ceremony and celebrating with us! A special shoutout to our incredible planning team led by Mrs. Matthews, an amazing presentation by Mr. Dadas and founding teacher Sue Fronrath for reminding us where it all began. Huge thanks to our @csms_pta , Ms. Cusano, Ms. Lopez, Ms. Beaney, and Ms. O’Brian and the CSMS clubs for bringing the decades to life with interactive games. Wait, there’s more! Mrs. Opthof and our Global Perspectives students for creating our time capsule treasure, set to be opened in 2051! ⏳ We were honored to acknowledge those former principals who led the way, including former principals Vicky Kaufman, Ian Murray, and Sara LaRosa. Once a Stallion, always a Stallion. 💙 #CSMS50 #StallionPride #OnceAStallionAlwaysAStallion

I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Coral Springs Vice Mayor Nancy Metayer. Nancy was someone who truly cared about people and about this community. She did not just hold office. She showed up, she listened, and she worked every day to move Coral Springs forward. Her commitment to public service and her belief in the future of our community were clear in everything she did. Anyone who spent even a few minutes with Nancy remembers her smile and enthusiasm for public service. It lit up a room and made you feel like you mattered. That is a rare quality, and it is something our community was better for. This is a tremendous loss for Coral Springs. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, her loved ones, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Over the past few months, I’ve been spending most of my weekends learning to play polo. Between running my law practice and the pace of legislative session, most of my time is usually focused on work. I wanted to challenge myself to take on something new and step outside that routine for a few hours each week. I’ve been riding horses most of my life, but polo takes it to an entirely different level. It’s a humbling sport and a great reminder that there is always something new to learn. Today was my last lesson up here in Tallahassee, but I’m looking forward to continuing to play and improve once I’m back in South Florida. A big thank you to Mary Phipps and to Omar at Red Hills Polo Club, who patiently taught me the fundamentals and helped get me started in the sport. Turns out the best way to reset from the pace of life is a horse, a mallet, and a few hours outside.

Sine Die. Grateful for this team and the work they put in throughout Session. Casey kept everything running smoothly in the office, and Varun, Emily, and Sophie did an incredible job as interns this year. They showed up every day ready to work and serve our district. Proud of what we accomplished this Session and thankful for their dedication and long hours behind the scenes.

Once a bill clears committee, it heads to the House floor. Questions, amendments, debate, and a final vote by the full 120-member House. Here’s what that process looks like.

This week for Topic Tuesday, it’s an intern takeover! Get an inside look at what the District 96 interns have been up to at the Florida State Capitol over the past few weeks and hear firsthand what it’s really like to be an intern in the legislative process.

Florida’s budget process isn’t flashy — but it’s one of the most important things we do in Tallahassee. Two budgets. Conference negotiations. A 72-hour review period. And ultimately, decisions about how your tax dollars are spent. Here’s how it actually works.

On the eighth anniversary of the tragedy at my alma mater, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, I’m thinking of the 17 lives lost and the families forever changed. We recommit ourselves to the work of keeping our schools safe and honoring their memories with continued action.

Last week we talked about property insurance. This week, the focus has shifted to property taxes. They aren’t the same problem — and they aren’t solved the same way. Property taxes fund real, local services people rely on every day. There are smart reforms worth discussing, but eliminating them isn’t realistic governance.
