Exert of a piece on border abolition brought to light by my families story of migration on the micro level and on the macro level global border struggles waged by indigenous people over colonial
exploitation.
Dance translation-
The colonial knife that unnaturally cuts straight borders simultaneously extracts our beating hearts from our chest when we are severed from our land and family. The limbs of the land partitioned, extracted, and severed.
The dance begins with family and transitional cycles, then goes on to depict struggle, resistance, and finally liberation.
I can not remember when this was performed

SEE YALL TONITE!
One month ago we gathered on Chochenyo Ohlone lands at CSU East Bay for our Emergent Performance Ritual… The Listening Project: In the House of Matriarchs
The wisdom and resilience shared in the voices of our Elders and Matriarchs are still reverberating with us, and we are deeply grateful for the presence of community coming together in the spirit of Listening!
“Reflecting upon DE’s 21st year and the consideration of legacy, I shift my focus to consider the larger moment of arts being diminished severely at this time. What is legacy? What is the impact of art ? What is the movement we need to make or the perspectives we need to listen to, to make a kinder more sustainable world ? The reactions of community to this offering confirmed that the intentions of this project is creating major reverberation for every participant, creating change one being at a time. Thank you for being a part of this, for being a part of the great rippling!”

❤️🔥We are ignited in the spirit of our collective resilience in this potent process of Listening and dancing with the wisdom pouring from our elders/Matriarchs. Join us this Sunday as their voices serve us guidance for the times.❤️🔥
We invite participants to bring a photo of a matriarch, elder, and/or Mother Land you’d like to honor in our ritual for our collective altar which will be offered by @_mujerestrella
Our immersive community time will include activities such as cordage making with @scrap_tender , blending herbal tea, and postcard writing. Together we will share an embodied invocation for all to participate in, followed by our performance ritual.
“It seems that we are in times of collapse and crumble of many systems , and this is a time to listen deeply to what experienced women who we love and respect have to say. And then, to embody that knowledge and determine how to apply it into action in the world…”
