The New York Studio of Irish Step Dance is an Upper West Side school dedicated to adult dancers of all levels, from beginners to champions, with performances across iconic NYC venues including the Bronx Zoo, Hudson Yards, the Empire State Building, and Madison Square Garden.
Tabitha teaches our beginner classes and hopes you’ll join us for some exercise and the joy dance brings! Khadijah Siferllah is an Emmy-nominated artist from Minneapolis, MN, based in Brooklyn, NY. Her work merges House and traditional West African dance into a sensational form she coined House Africana. Her work has been taught and performed internationally through her House Africana Tour, and she is one of the first hijabi Muslim dancers to appear on major platforms, including NBC’s World of Dance with Jennifer Lopez.
Khadijah has performed through Ladies of Hip Hop, presenting solo work at Lincoln Center, the Guggenheim, Jacob’s Pillow, and the Hudson Valley Dance Festival. She is also known as a part of acclaimed dance duo Al Taw’am, alongside her twin sister Umi IMAN. Her work has been recognized through fellowships and residencies including BAM’s Chuck Davis Emerging Choreographer Fellowship and Dance Lab New York. Her community and activism work spans global organizations such as Each One Teach One (Berlin) and Sunu Thoissan (Senegal), with presentations at the Facing Race Conference, the Nobel Peace Prize Forum, and institutions including Spelman College, Yale University, and Harvard University.
Beyond dance, Khadijah is the co-founder of Sequoia Ascension, an Atlanta-based organization supporting Black and Native American communities through the arts, cultural practice, and housing. The organization offers an Artist-in-Residence program with subsidized housing, curates cultural events, and produces the Atlanta Afro-Indigenous Peoples Festival.
