Finding dance events and footage has gotten way too hard.
I grew up learning breaking and popping from online forums and watching early YouTube tutorials. Since then I watched as our online community evolved with the rise of social media. Between YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and niche websites our community has grown.
But I was frustrated by the lack of a unified custom platform.
So I built Dance Chives.
It’s a place to archive events, find upcoming sessions and battles, tag the people who made it happen, and explore dance history.

It has been 2 weeks since launch. I already have such a backlog of work to do. But damn, I love engineering and product design.
One of the reasons I wanted to develop Dance Chives is because I love watching dance battles, but I always felt like there was a better way than the experience YouTube gives us.
I’ve been thinking it would be cool to browse through battle videos from YouTube the same way you do on IG and TikTok, but without the brain rot algorithm control. You could quickly filter the videos you’re browsing by city, date range, event, bracket, and dance styles. 🏙️🗓️🕺
It would also be cool to react and see other people’s reactions at certain timestamps in a battle, kind of like SoundCloud comments. 🔥😮👏
