Israel has fully re-opened its economy as more than two-thirds of the population is vaccinated, using in many cases a "Green Passport" to verify whether individuals are vaccinated before allowing them to enter enclosed places. The "Green Passport" is an application that serves as a digital vaccination certificate with a scannable QR code and facial recognition software.Â
After 1.5 years of quarantining, Israelisâ yearning to socialize and vacation in the dwindling days of the pandemic has created a marked shift in the ways they spend their leisure time, resulting in record high numbers of visitors at local tourist sites. I photographed Israelis socializing, vacationing and engaging in routine activities after such a long period of quarantining and social distancing. This project was generously funded by the National Geographic Society's COVID-19 Emergency Fund for Journalists.
