I don’t use AI! I use my heart and brain! Everything I create comes from within this little sack of love, blood and bones. AI will NEVER replace human made art.

‼️This month I thought I was working on a big illustration project… it turns out that it was all a scam.
At first it looked and felt legit. They probably used a real project brief from somewhere, but after a few days I was starting to see some red flags and eventually my gut told me to be careful. I was, and proceeded with caution. After emailing back-and-forth with the person that contacted me even more red flags started to show. I began some in depth research. Then I discovered addresses didn’t match up, websites looked fake, communication was oddly worded and spotty. Nothing felt like it did with past clients.
I’ve read stories from other illustrators shared on Reddit about illustration scams. In the end it’s all usually done to get bank info. It really sucks that people pray on artists, especially in this case, me, a disabled and chronically ill artist, but all scammers suck. I hate them all.
Anyone can fall victim to these awful humans and some days I still feel silly that I believed it, how I wasted my time and creative energy, but initially it all looked fine and I was excited to have some work as it’s been hard to get lately.
I’m happy I listened to my gut and noticed the red flags when I did. I haven’t given any financial information out nor have I sent any of my work to anyone. The defining moment was the contract- I had to bug people to send it over, and when it was finally sent it was soooo obviously fake.
I stopped corresponding after getting their “contract” and they’ve now completely ignored me. I wanted to send a heated email, but scammers don’t care. They probably moved onto targeting someone else. I didn’t wanna give them anymore of my time and energy. That is why I am sharing this here. I would hate for someone else to fall for this bs. Especially an illustrator that is just starting out.
The jobs I’ve had as freelance artist and illustrator have given me something to compare potential red flags to. If I didn’t have the experience that I do, I may have fallen for more of this. I really don’t know.
Thanks for reading. Take care of each other. Trust your illustration instincts and intuition! 🩷 xoxo
