💋New Polish Mother Dana Elle! For the first time in FQ Performance💋 When I entered ballroom in 2014, this space was the only place I was able to explore myself & my femininity somehow, to see different representation(not in the real life tho, but at least on the clips) and escape from the reality which was very tough & unacceptable. When I was growing up in a small city in Ukraine my sources were very limited, I wasn’t really available to explore my true identity & embrace it. Although, I was feeling that something about me then is not “right”. In many moments of depressive episodes, I was just playing some music & trying to vogue, hiding from outside world or watching clips of the icons & legends getting inspiration not only to move but also live. Especially the FQ’s, they always were my number one source of inspiration. And honestly, I was never would imagine that after almost 10 years after I explored ballroom I gonna debute as one of them. This is definitely a beginning of new journey! This little insecure 13ye old (still gagging I started ballroom so early) is not there anymore. Now she is grown up woman living her best & truthful life. W centrum rehabilitacyjnym dla weteranów wojennych we Lwowie młodzi ukraińscy żołnierze, którzy stracili ręce, nogi i inne części ciała, walczą o odzyskanie sprawności fizycznej i psychicznej. Ich zdeterminowana walka o powrót do normalnego życia jest formą heroizmu. Członkowie Open Group, ukraińskiego kolektywu artystycznego, który reprezentował Polskę na Biennale w Wenecji, mierzą się z doświadczeniem wojny poprzez swoją praktykę artystyczną. Jeden z nich, Pavlo Kovach, zostaje w Ukrainie, by walczyć. Przeżywa ten konflikt jednocześnie jako artysta i jako żołnierz, funkcjonując pomiędzy twórczą refleksją a realiami wojny. Poza Ukrainą Dana, transpłciowa tancerka i artystka, mieszka i buduje swoją przyszłość w Polsce. 👉 My 48-hour stint in Gdynia, Poland for the annual MDAG documentary film festival ended with a proper highlight: the screening of BODIES (OF WAR) by Małgorzata Szumowska (@szumowska.m ) and Michał Englert (@englert_dop ). 👈 When I committed to the festival a month ago, this was the one film I absolutely had to see. It became the centrepiece of my schedule of 12 screenings at @gdynskiecentrumfilmowe during the 23rd edition of @millenniumdocsagainstgravity . The post-screening Q&A, moderated by Marcin Mindykowski, featured Dana Vitkovska (@dana_delight ), one of the film’s central voices, a multidisciplinary artist and ballroom dancer from Ukraine, now based in Warsaw. The documentary follows Ukrainian war veterans in rehabilitation, members of an arts collective, and civilians navigating survival, displacement, identity and resistance in the shadow of Russia’s war on Ukraine. It explores not only the physical trauma of war, but also the emotional and political realities faced by the Ukrainian diaspora and trans communities. Brutal at times, yet deeply poetic, the film balances tenderness with devastation in a way that lingers long after the credits roll. Apologies to many of my followers as the clips are in Polish, but the voices and stories of Dana & co. felt far too important not to share. I was left speechless and impressed in equal measures while listening to Dana’s thoughts and reasoning.
