D. Jack Solomon’s exhibition ‘Potpourri-Seven Decades of Painting’ opens Saturday, March 14, 2-4 pm at Time and Space LTD, Hudson, NY Jack and I first met when I helped installed his show at Helen Shlien Gallery in Boston around 1981. I showed with Helen too. This week I helped install his show at TSL. When I moved to NYC in 1982, the first person I called was Jack. Still have that old phone number. Been friends ever since.🛠️🪛🖌️ Thank you @ericwolfstudio for the photos! @djacksolomon @tsl_hudson #hudsonny #contemporarypainting

‘Rider’ is the piece that solidified joining molded and hand- stitched leather with machine parts. I think about machines not as neutral tools, but as systems that produce lasting, physical, biological, and environmental consequences. This way of working grew out of my early experience racing motorcycles in the 1960’s, where competing required not only riding skill but also the ability to build and modify machines. Long hours spent in body shops taught me how metal fails, how pressure moves through systems, and how parts bend, break and respond. This experience shaped my understanding of how closely human bodies are bound to the technologies we create. ‘Rider’ is in Terrestrial Extra @dorskymuseum curated by Alta Budin and Craig Montieth. Through the end of March. @roundaboutsnow_ @altabuden #contemporaryart #contemporarysculpture #motorcycle #leather

‘Terrestrial Extra’ at The Dorsky Museum of Art curated by Alta Budin and Craig Monteith, includes four of my leather and machine part sculptures. My work examines how technology shapes human bodies and environments, particularly as those systems become embedded in how we live and move through the world. I reverse the interior and exterior of things-physical and conceptual- making sculptures that expose what is typically concealed beneath functional surfaces. I think about machines not as neutral tools, but as systems that produce lasting physical, biological, and environmental consequences. * ‘Tumble’ 2025, molded and hand stitched leather with steel. 76 x 46 x 38 inches. * ‘Rider’, 2022-22, molded and hand stitched leather and painted motorcycle, 42 x 66 x 30 inches * ‘Long Stretch’, 2021, molded and hand stitched leather with motorcycle parts, 16 x 36 x 28 inches * ‘Pulse’, 2021, 10 x 22 x 13 inches * I’m please to share the space with like minded artists, some tagged in photos, See last image for full list. Thank you Alta and Craig and the Dorsky staff for putting together this timely and provocative exhibition. * On view through March 29 The Samuel Dorsey Museum SUNY New Paltz New Paltz, NY * @dorskymuseum @altabuden @craigmonteith00 @roundaboutsnow_ #contemporarysculpture #contemporaryart #leathersculpture #steel #motorcycle

2025 brought ‘Tumble’ a leather figure seemingly trapped in its own welded steel exoskeleton. This piece carries my studio practice forward into 2026. * Thank you everyone for your conversation and support of this work. * ‘Tumble’ and a few other leather and machine part pieces will be in Terrestrial Extra, curated by Alta Budin and Craig Montieth @dorskymuseum in February 2026. ✨ 🙏@dbkr88 @farmsteadhudson @isidroblasco @architectural_interventions @tanjagrunertgallery
