Ever Thus is now on view at GLR41 Montréal, marking Dan Alva’s new solo exhibition! 🥂 History rarely stays still: rooted in classical imagery and built through camouflage, distortion, and visual interruption, Alva’s (@dan.alva ) practice treats history as something unstable: not preserved, but reworked, concealed, and seen again. Across the exhibition, familiar icons shift between memory, desire, and image culture, suspended in the tension between what is recognizable and what begins to disappear. 🔗 Discover new collection / Découvrez la nouvelle collection: [email protected] #galerieleroyer #glr #montreal #toronto #danalva

What happens when classical imagery begins to disappear? 📌 Opening May 8 at GLR41 Montreal: Ever Thus, a solo exhibition by Dan Alva (@dan.alva ) Rooted in classical imagery and built through camouflage, distortion, and visual interruption, Alva’s practice treats history as something unstable: not preserved, but reworked, concealed, and seen again. Figures emerge and disappear across layered surfaces, suspended between memory and erasure. In Ever Thus, the past becomes mutable, rewritten through each act of looking. 🗓️ 8 mai, de 17 h à 20 h / May 8, from 5–8pm. #galerieleroyer #glr #montreal #toronto #danalva

Offer You Can’t Refuse, 2025, Oil on Canvas, 80” x 110”

Largest painting to date, being shown next week @galerieleroyer for my solo exhibition ‘Ever Thus’. A cross between Auguste Dominique Ingres and @damienhirst , this painting brings new light to the idea of interruption—where precision and control collide with chaos.

My most commissioned painting. A simple idea from 2020. Fine, I’ll paint another one.

New works headed to @galerieleroyer for my solo show titled ‘Ever Thus’ this May. These works play with the idea of what a painting is supposed to be. At first glance they appear to sit inside ornate, museum-style frames—but the frames are actually painted as part of the canvas itself. What looks like a traditional presentation device becomes part of the artwork. The Code of Silence, 2025, Oil on Canvas, 30X35” Loyalty is Earned, 2025, Oil on Canvas, 30X35” Keep Your Friends Close, 2025, Oil on Canvas, 30X35”

Sneak peek 👀 this May, Dan Alva will present his solo exhibition at GLR Montréal! A Miami-based contemporary artist with Spanish roots, Alva (@dan.alva ) was raised in his father’s garage, where he learned to build, deconstruct, and reinvent — a foundation that shaped the bold, layered voice of his work. In “Ever Thus,” his upcoming solo exhibition, classical iconography collides with contemporary visual chaos, blurring permanence and impermanence, tradition and rebellion.

In focus: Dan Alva intervenes in Ingres’ Portrait of Madame Devauçay, letting colour drift across the figure like a living veil. Bold, fluid forms fracture the portrait’s stillness, folding past and present into one image: where classical poise meets contemporary gesture in a quiet, charged tension.
