There was this punk kid I met in Junior High from Camarillo I spent a lot of time with. What he lacked in social graces (he couldn’t sk8 & he didn’t do drugs) he made up with convincing convictions be it animal rights, anti govt the touchy one always being religion. He had an oedipal relationship w his haus dress wearin ma ma that cast squirmy servings of self doubt in his angst he eventually succumbed & went born again. Naturally he gave his records away & in one clean swoop I completed my Varukers & Amebix collections. Before that tho we always had discussions on possible rad TLA’s for band names. Didn’t we all do that? Tryna one up underground cred using cult trademarks is just as crucial is conceptualizing the sound that accompanies. Here’s a class example of TLA-core. A side project w dudes from Skitslickers, Anti Cimex, Sunes Studs Och Gronlandsrockkarna, Driller Killer, Perukers….a funny part of our culture once again proving we are typically a micro-causal version of the dominant narrative we claim to oppose #gbgpunx1982 #gbgpunx #threeletteracronyms
Monday lunch period hits hard @ suburban middle school as pizza slices await the massive line which the 20 minutes alotted cannot rightfully serve. I‘ve never been crazy bout Circle One band…although the legacy of The Family was something I grew up to recognize due to my associations. Minutes before my time but I was to understand how integral they were to the early 1980‘s hardcore punk scene as a band, promoter, as well as a gang. Even Goldenvoice had to bend knee at suggestion those people you see regulating stage control during those epic Olympic Auditorium gigs was not only a job @ venue security but also quelling beefs between inner city punk gangs by making them work together. We all know aside from isolated stories of John Macias regulating street justice he forged a sense of unity even amongst days tribal warfare, to claim it nicely. These are seeds that bleed even into modern factions ala 7th St Punx, Slam Garage incident…we as punk r.. ockers are a micro-cosm of a much larger system at play. I was reading the new Cometbus mini zines published @ dawn of 2026 & as much as I respect the institution of Aaron Elliot it’s way more than obvious he uses his template to create a specific narrative. Whatever dewd, you put in the *midnight oil* but regardless of your efforts people still enjoy & make Oi! music.i learned about this 7” you guessed it, by obscure compilation cassettes. The city they were from in modern day Serbia is considered The Athens of the region in terms of culture & industrialization. I believe they went more commercial later on from this 1991 7”.
