Art Paris is a wrap, but we’re still thinking about what we saw at the Prima Gallery booth.
We stopped by to meet Gaspard Girard d’Albissin (@dalbissin ) who walked us through his paintings on show. His work mines the visual excess of the internet age—found photos, pet birds on display, and silk garments caught in a flash—rendered in slow, deliberate oil painting strokes.
A big thank you to Gaspard for taking the time to chat with us, and thank you to @galerie.prima

Gaspard Girard d’Albissin (b. 1988, New York) is a Paris-based painter whose practice draws on images sourced from online platforms, fashion scenes, and candid photography. Selecting imagery that resonates intuitively, he transforms everyday subjects into meticulously rendered compositions infused with subtle humor and heightened drama.
Through saturated details, dramatic lighting, and strong contrasts, seemingly banal elements become evocative symbols of contemporary life. His layered glazes and attention to texture, from soft drapery to reflective surfaces, lend his paintings a sculptural quality that bridges classical painting and digital aesthetics.
Marked by a sense of nostalgia and impermanence, Girard d’Albissin’s work reflects a contemporary form of vanitas, exploring memory, simulation, and the fragile beauty of the ordinary.

Opening at IRL this Friday, March 20, from 6–8pm 🧥
𝓛𝓞𝓢𝓢𝓛𝓔𝓢𝓢 brings together Paris-based painters Gaspard Girard d’Albissin and Bastien Pery in a dialogue around photography, memory, and the unstable life of images.
Working from photographic sources, both artists transform images through painting. Girard d’Albissin draws on digital culture and fashion imagery to create luminous scenes where polished surfaces and fleeting gestures take on a heightened, theatrical presence. Pery, by contrast, begins with family photographs and personal archives, translating manipulated images into atmospheric interiors where light and shadow carry emotional residue.
This marks Gaspard’s second exhibition with the gallery.
