Incredibly excited to share that Dala is now the proud owner of a 1978 Ampex MM-1200 2” 16-track tape machine, masterfully restored by the legend Joel Katz (former East Coast field agent for Ampex in the 70s/80s 🤯 pictured in slide 2/3). To say this entire purchase and restoration process was a labor of love is an understatement - it almost ended me 😂 But I’m so glad I stuck with it and now we get to enjoy making records on this beautiful machine for many years to come. In addition, it will be available for use by outside studio clients at @waldinstudios (in-house engineer required) so feel free to inquire within if you’re curious about analog recording! #dalarecords #ampexmm1200 #analogrecording #gobills

We are excited to announce 𝑵𝒆𝒘 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 the new EP from singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist 𝑺𝑨𝑹𝑨𝑺𝑶𝑵 // Out May 22nd on Dala Records! 🌱 The New Life EP represents a new high watermark for SARASON both in terms of songwriting, arranging and production. The basic tracks were recorded in Los Angeles at Killion Sound under the guidance of expert producer Sergio Rios (Say She She, Orgone), with additional vocals, overdubs and mixing in Brooklyn at Waldin Studios with producer and Dala Records chief Billy Aukstik (Charles Bradley, Griz, Ghost Funk Orchestra). Stylistically, New Life continues SARASON’s zigzagging trek through classic Psych, Funk, Soul and Rock sounds with stellar contributions from a bicoastal cast of collaborators including Rios and Aukstik as well as Terin Ector (Black Pumas, Adrian Quesada), Augustin Magaña (Mestizo Beat, Jungle Fire) Pete Mancini (Butchers Blind, Jimmy Webb), Mayteana Morales (Durand Jones, Pimps of Joytime), Kim Foxen (Still Brothers) and more. Happy release day to Billy the Kid and his new EP 𝙎𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙎𝙖𝙮 out now on Dala Records! Swipe through to see the full credits — here’s some words from Billy on the record: “This record was a labor of love that started all the way back in 2018. In-between my time as a touring trumpet player, record label owner and freelance record producer/engineer, I would chip away at my own original songs. Many of the songs that came to be in this EP were fully realized during the Covid lockdown, including “All In A Feelin’” which speaks to those times and the desperate need for live music back in our lives. The title track “Some Will Say” is perhaps the odd-ball of the bunch and was recorded entirely on my iPhone in my apartment when a full song came to me all at once (I tried to re-record it in the studio but it never had that same magic so I said what the heck let’s just release the original demo!) Both “Promises” and “Bridges” are based on my personal life while “Can’t Lose With You” was originally written for a friend to sing as part of a songwriter workshop, but then I decided I enjoyed it too much so I had to record it myself ;) I really hope you enjoy these songs and thanks so much for listening!” Photos by Chrissy Ruiz (@chrissy.ruiz ) at @waldinstudios
