We as Boricuas owe so much to the Black + Boricua mujeres of the Young Lords Party, in their continuing efforts to advocate for la patria, our communities and for the liberation/ withdrawal of the U.S. occupation and military presence in Puerto Rico.
These women, Iris Morales, Denise Oliver, Nydia Mercado, and Lulu Carreras were at the forefront of the Puerto Rican independence movement in the states while simultaneously challenging and opposing machismo culture.
We need to carry on their work in protecting Puerto Rico from wealthy Americans moving to the island in search of tax incentives allocated by Acts 20 and 22. Boricuas in the island pay for their schools, government, roads, etc. and these people pay nothing, and use Puerto Rico for their own selfish benefit.
These Crypto-Colonizers are looking to gentrify native Boricua land in order to build some elitist American community. They mask their direct correlation to gentrification and tax evasion under some sort of “Savior Persona”, knowing none of their actions benefit the people on the island, (talking to you @loganpaul and @brockjpierce ), The U.S. govt. does not/ has never cared for Puerto Rico which is why they will do nothing about this, in fact they encourage it under the Jones Act, a way for American business to abuse cheap labor on the island. the people/ government of Puerto Rico do not have a say over their status as a colony, because the U.S. KNOWS the benefits they’d lose if Puerto Rico were to be independent. If you have a platform, please spread information on this that comes directly from Boricuas y viva PR libre‼️🗣
Today, I refuse to commemorate the independence of a country that has colonized and abused the island archipelago of Puerto Rico for 120+ years for power and profit. I will never fall victim to Stockholm syndrome in believing that colonization in ANY way benefits the colonized. The U.S. has a long history of forced sterilization of Boricua women , military occupation of the island, arresting and murdering independentista boricuas, banning the PR flag and anthem, among many other atrocities. The effects of U.S. imperialism are still seen, as Puerto Ricans are still treated as second class citizens, and with mass gentrification and commercial development of Puerto Rico by Americans, many of whom who feel entitled to land they stole. The U.S. govt. has worsened conditions in Puerto Rico during the pandemic by not allowing the island to close their own borders, and with the recent U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency funded privatization of power. I won’t sit here and list ALL the atrocities committed against Puerto Rico by the United States, as that would be MUCH too lengthy; so instead, I choose to honor the Boricua activists throughout this post who have dedicated their lives and died in an effort to decolonize Puerto Rico. A todos los puertorriqueños: No imperialist entity can rob us from our joy and our voices‼️
ABAJO CON EL IMPERIALISMO 🇵🇷‼️
