We’ve been awarded third-best buns in NZ by @bakingnz in their 2026 annual competition. And we’re officially the best buns in ‘the 09’!
Huge congratulations to Michael’s Bakery in Christchurch & Nada Bakery in Wellington for taking out first & second place.
Not everyone gets to come third and we’re stoked to see our buns on the podium. Sid our head of pastry (pictured), along with our Master Baker Pat and the rest of the team worked tirelessly to bake the best possible buns and we’re immensely proud of their delicious achievement.
Our (still triple gold-award-winning!!) hot cross buns are naturally leavened with our sourdough starter rendering them light and fluffy, and are packed with juicy fruit, local NZ rum & generously spiced for the most glorious buns in Auckland.
And as always, they’re best enjoyed toasted, served with generous lashings of @lewisroadcreamery butter 🤎

Happy New Year from the DB team! We’re almost back to business as usual, with all stores but Fed St back open.
2025 was a big one for us and the new year has got us reflecting on the year that was.
We built our new bakery which we now call home, we gave our OG Pt Chev site a much-needed makeover (and started a rotisserie chicken shop in there!), we sold heaps of AKL’s fave hot cross buns & Christmas mince pies, said goodbye to some long-standing faces of DB, and hello to some new ones, launched our very own Daily Roast with @coffee_supreme , our Rēwena sourdough won best artisanal bread, launched a new catering offering, and so much more.
It’s hard to put it all into into words or a carousel, but all of that wouldn’t be possible without our incredible team that work around the clock (literally) to put out the best sourdough & pastries possible, and of course you, our fabulous customers.
So a big thanks for sticking with us, and for coming in for a cuppa and your fave baked good (shout out to the peoples’ favourite ham & cheese croissant!)
We’re pretty excited for what’s in store for the year ahead, and we look forward to seeing you soon for your DB fix. 🤎
