The other day, my wife said, “When you become a parent, you become a poet.” Becoming a parent has opened my eyes to see beauty where I once did not: in the mundane and ordinary, in the fleeting moments, in the little things—literally. I’m beginning to see that life isn’t just about the destination, but also the journey. I’m learning to slow down. We often fix our eyes on where we’re headed, chasing what feels grand and important. In the car, things feel still, quiet, and slow compared to the fast-paced, loud, and exciting world outside. The stillness and transience of the car ride is buried beneath the pressure to arrive, to be somewhere greater, to do something more impressive. And yet it’s in that stillness that eternity is being shaped. A glance. A touch. A moment away from a screen. A moment shared with my son. These are not distractions from the journey—they are the journey. They are what shape me and the soul beside me. Not because these moments are grand, but because they are real and full of presence. Even in this quiet, short car ride, my smallest actions, or inactions, mean something. And perhaps, for him, they mean everything. — 얼마 전, 아내가 말했습니다. “부모가 되면 시인이 된다.” 부모가 되고 나서야 예전에는 보이지 않던 아름다움이 보이기 시작했습니다. 평범하고 일상적인 것들, 순간순간 스쳐 지나가는 것들, 그리고 말 그대로 작고 사소한 것들 속에서요. 이제는 인생이 단지 목적지만을 향한 것이 아니라 그 여정 자체에 의미가 있다는 걸 조금씩 배워가고 있습니다. 천천히 사는 법을 배우고 있습니다. 우리는 종종 목적지를 향해 시선을 고정한 채 더 크고 중요해 보이는 것들을 좇으며 살아갑니다. 차 안에서는 모든 것이 고요하고, 조용하고, 느리게 느껴집니다. 바깥세상이 빠르고 시끄럽고 화려하게 돌아가는 것과는 다르게요. 이 조용하고 덧없는 차 안의 시간은 더 크고 더 나은 곳에 도달해야 한다는 압박 속에 묻혀버리기 쉽습니다. 하지만 바로 그 고요함 속에서, 영원이 만들어지고 있습니다. 한 번의 눈맞춤. 살며시 건네는 손길. 잠시 화면에서 눈을 떼는 시간. 아들과 함께 나누는 순간. 이것들은 여정의 방해물이 아닙니다—이것들이 곧 여정입니다. 이러한 순간들이 나를, 그리고 내 옆에 있는 이 영혼을 빚어갑니다. 그 순간들이 거창해서가 아니라, 진짜이고, 온전히 ‘함께 있음’으로 가득 차 있기 때문입니다. 이 짧고 조용한 차 안에서도, 내 가장 작은 행동 하나, 혹은 하지 않은 어떤 것도 의미를 가질 수 있습니다. 그리고 어쩌면, 이런 순간들이 이 아이에겐 전부일지도 모릅니다.
