Dad the Cat 🤍 2008–2025
Bub. Beezlebug. Puppy. Yoda. Thicc boy. My little tank linebacker.
It’s been a year since my best buddy passed on, choosing to leave with the last gasps of the LA fires. A year of sitting with grief, remembering the joy, sadness, and love, which turns out to be a strange paradise in and of itself.
I remember being 19, living alone, a bit wild, feeling lost in life, with no business caring for another living being, when an expo I worked with said they had found a kitten that needed a home. An hour later, I met you in an Olive Garden parking lot, popping out of a box with the most inquisitive look on your face.
I remember not knowing what to name you for the first year, so I took a cue from Breakfast at Tiffany’s and referred to you simply as Cat. Cut to a Halloween party, where a friend drunkenly looked down at you and said, “Are you my dad?” You perked up with that same inquisitive look, and I knew we’d found a name.
You slowly taught me patience, responsibility, and how to love unconditionally. We grew together and moved through so many different seasons of life. Ten different apartments, two different states, one giant cross-country move between them.
You adored cold cuts, shoes and feet (don’t ask questions), and squeezing into nooks and spaces that defied the mass and roundness of your body. You grew from a little demon with a feisty personality into a little lover who wanted nothing more than pets and a warm place to curl up next to me. You were more dog than cat at times, and when a dog entered our life, you kept Ed calm and cared for when she was at her most anxious.
You stayed inquisitive, patient, and loving until the very end. Those who knew you absolutely loved you, little legend. Every day I miss you and wish you could have stayed longer, but I am forever grateful for the beautiful 17 years we spent together. 🤍
