A Bag of Rice for a Saturday Child is Touring to Fremantle! Step into the in-between as A Bag of Rice for a Saturday Child arrives at DADAA Gallery Fremantle—this deeply personal exhibition traces the tender, mythic, and sometimes mischievous stories shaping the cultural identity of Burmese-Australian artist Natalie de Rozario. Sparked by a childhood moment beside a Naga (Burmese Dragon) statue and a grandmother’s tale of ‘buying’ her Saturday-born grandchild for a bag of rice, the work unravels how memory, ritual, and ancestral intention travel across generations and geographies. Through charcoal drawings, paintings, installation, family archives, songs, oral histories, and heirlooms gathered over decades, the exhibition considers what is carried, what is transformed, and how belonging is often found in the spaces between cultures. Thank you @dadaa_ltd and @acn_seymour for the opportunity, I am excited to see how the art is engaged with by the Freo and DADAA community. 📅 Exhibition runs from 15 May - 12 June 2026 🎉Opening night: Friday, 15 May, 6-8pm Save the date and see you there.

NOW OPEN! Dark World | Matteo Mazzella | DADAA Side Gallery 1 May — 29 May 2026 - DADAA Fremantle Side Gallery Monday – Friday | 10am – 2pm Matteo’s first solo exhibition brings together more than a decade of work: ink illustrations, animation, and paintings, to form what he describes as a “cursed monster hive”. An artist and a filmmaker, many of Matteo’s drawings were created as artwork for his animated TV and web series Learning with Difficulties (2018–2019). Clips from this film are also presented alongside other animated works created between 2014 and 2019. Artist Statement: I failed art in school. At the time it didn’t really matter because I was much more interested in multimedia and filmmaking, which wasn’t taught at school beyond Photoshop. At the time, this wasn’t a problem because I thought I could just study film at TAFE or university. However, I soon realised that their preferred style of films bored me to death. But it’s all good because I had never realised how artistic my favourite films were and the people responsible for that art were rarely given the spotlight. And from there I found a new passion for art. However, I wasn’t fully ready to adopt the digital art techniques favoured in films these days. Instead, I loved the detailed, etched drawings found in old books. I wanted to draw as well as that. So now, over a decade later, I think I’m as close as I’ll get… and that’s good enough. The art style in my videos has helped me stand out, win awards, and build connections. It has taken years to feel my work is good enough and now I think, in the end, I have passed.

Honestly still a bit surreal to say this out loud… but A Bag of Rice for a Saturday Child is heading to Walyalup/Fremantle. 🌾💛 After such a beautiful exhibition at @zigzaggallerykalamunda I’m so excited (and nervous in the best way) to share this work again — this time at @dadaa_ltd This exhibition began from something really small: childhood stories, strange superstitions, family photographs, memories of my mum and aunties, and all the inherited beliefs and contradictions that come with growing up Burmese-Australian. Somewhere along the way, it became a much bigger reflection on identity, diaspora, matriarchy, migration and the stories we carry with us across generations. Making this work has genuinely changed my practice in many ways. It’s helped me reconnect with parts of myself and my family history that I didn’t fully understand growing up, and it’s been so moving seeing how many people have found pieces of their own stories inside it too. Would really love to celebrate this next chapter with you all. Opening Night 🌙 📍 @dadaa_ltd 92 Adelaide St, Fremantle 🗓 Friday 15 May, 2026 ⏰ 6–8pm 🎥: @brycetwyman See you there ✨️

Listen back to the conversation between singer-songwriter Carla Geneve and Radio DADAA's Brendon Foley. ‘People don’t realise how tough busking is. It teaches you so many good things about performing, it teaches you to just to do your own thing.’ In a very touching interview they discuss their busking experiences, prepping for gigs, and the key role audiences play in the music scene. Follow the link in our bio to the Radio DADAA website to listen back to Bits and Pieces, plus many more amazing Radio DADAA episodes and features.

Thank you so much to everyone who joined the radio DADAA launch — IRL or URL (in real life, or via the very first live radio DADAA broadcast!).💥✨🎤💕 We opened the night with speeches, the official launch count down moment, delicious food, drinks and amazing DJ's, before moving into the theatre for a panel discussion on community radio - and radio DADAA in particular. From there, we experienced experimental music by The Definitives, and topped off the night with an actual RAVE in the DADAA courtyard… Safe to say: a night to remember. Thank you all for making the beginning of our already beloved radio DADAA so incredibly special. Missed out? No worries! Parts of the launch will be broadcast on radio DADAA in the near future, and watch this space for more in-person events and on-air radio DADAA coming your way. Can’t wait to listen? Head to the radio DADAA page via the DADAA website and follow the radio DADAA logo to our fresh new site. Or visit .au/radiodadaa and click on the player to listen 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
