DACL was proud to attend the Senior Hunger Conference hosted by the Capital Area Food Bank. We were especially honored to have Director Hines serve as a panelist, sharing insights on advancing food access, equity, and support services for older adults across the District.
Together with community partners, we remain committed to addressing senior hunger and ensuring every older adult has access to the resources they need to thrive. #SeniorHungerConference #DACL #OlderAdults #FoodAccess #CommunityPartnerships

Happy Older Americans Month!! This year we celebrate the District’s older residents and the spirit they bring daily! This year’s theme is “Champion Your Health,” an intention set on being a better you! So what better way to start the month than a wellness walk! 🏃♀️🏃
Today, DACL Director Hines, Chief of Staff Angela Richardson, and Chief Operating Officer Regat Hagos testified before the Committee on Executive Administration and Labor of the Council of the District of Columbia, chaired by Councilmember Anita Bonds, on the FY27 Grow DC Budget. This budget focuses on ensuring DACL remains strong and stable while preserving the core services our seniors rely on every day.
Ahead of today’s FY2027 Budget Oversight Hearing, our senior leadership team observed Denim Day, an international campaign that raises awareness and challenges victim blaming in cases of sexual assault. We stand in solidarity with survivors and reaffirm our commitment to fostering a culture of respect, accountability, and support in our communities.

Take Your Child to Work Day at DACL 2026 💙💚
Today was all about learning, giving back, and building community! Our TEAM DACL kids came together to create heartfelt cards for DC seniors, worked alongside their parents, and got a firsthand look at how we serve residents across the District.
Yesterday, Director Charon Hines joined leaders and changemakers at the 2026 LeadingAgeDC Annual Conference @LeadingAgeDC
This year’s gathering was a powerful reminder of why we advocate and innovate: to uplift the stories of older adults and ensure every resident across our communities receives the support, dignity, and respect they deserve.
We are grateful for the partnership, shared vision, and unwavering commitment to strengthening services for older adults across the District. Here’s to continuing this important work—together.

Today, DACL joined civic leaders, advocates, and community members at the DC Emancipation Day “DC 250: Full Democracy” Luncheon.
This powerful gathering honored the legacy of emancipation while recognizing DC250, connecting our local history to the nation’s 250th anniversary.
Together, we reflected on the progress made and reaffirmed our shared commitment to equity, representation, and full democracy for all District residents.
