One of the greatest rewards of making music is hearing people tell us that, for even a moment, the performance helped them smile, feel lighter, reconnect with joy, dance a little, heal a little, or simply feel GOOD again. That’s powerful. That’s human. That’s why we do this.
We never take any of it for granted. In fact, hearing those stories keeps us grounded and reminds us what’s truly important… connection, love, community, and shared humanity. At the end of the day, we’re all just people navigating this life together. Last night’s show at World Records here in Bakersfield with Rick Estrin & The Nightcats was absolutely OFF THE CHARTS. From the very first note, the energy in the room was electric, packed with smiles, love, soul, and that magical connection that only live music can create. We were honored to share the bill with the incredible Shanna Morrison and her fabulous band, who brought so much heart and spirit to the night.
The Nightcats were firing on all cylinders, locked in, having a blast, and doing what we love most, pouring everything we have into the music and into the people in the room. Nights like this remind me why I’ve dedicated my life to this journey. The groove was deep, the crowd was beautiful, and the vibe was unforgettable.
What makes this photo special is that it’s the exact opposite of my usual pre-show setup shot. This one was taken after the final note had faded, after the crowd had gone home, after the lights came up. The room was empty… but somehow still completely full. You could still feel the presence of the music, the laughter, the dancing, the emotion, and the collective spirit that filled that space all night long. It’s the afterglow of a powerful performance, that lingering energy that hangs in the air after a truly special night.

Back at the Burbank Airport once again ✈️ headed to San Francisco for another beautiful stretch of music, fellowship, and soul-filled moments. Then it’s off to Bakersfield Friday night with Rick Estrin & Rick Estrin & The Nightcats at World Records, and Saturday we roll into Almost Famous Wine Company in Livermore, CA. I never take moments like this for granted. It’s always a blessing and an honor to share the stage with such talented, inspiring human beings. Music has a way of connecting people beyond race, politics, stress, struggle, or circumstance. In a world that feels heavier and more divided than ever, being able to bring joy, groove, healing, and release to people through music is something I deeply cherish.
For a couple of hours, we get to put the noise of the world on pause… no chaos, no pressure, no distractions… just rhythm, soul, smiles, and human connection. That’s powerful. That’s sacred. That’s why I do this.
